It's early days for Reach, but I'm really liking the way the game handles. Duel wielding was cool but I'm not missing it yet. Armour powers (particularly sprint) open up some fun new ways of playing and charging up behind stuff and assassinating hasn't grown old yet (and probably never will).
Yep. I initially thought the Hologram armor ability was useless because no human in MP would be stupid enough to fall for that. Then later on in a BTB sniper game I got jacked three or four times by a goddamn hologram. LOL!

Apparently Bungie did try to make it fit with the books (scently talked about this), so Bungie do value continuity across the cannon stuff and I really like that they do. I'll be there day 1 for whatever Bungie do next just as I was for Reach. I don't like some of the decisions they made for Reach though (while liking others), and in its own right found the story disappointing - thinking back to the books just magnified this. But hey, it's just my opinion. I was one of the people that thought the flood were great and really liked all the Arbiter stuff.
There's a big gap between July 18 and August 27 in the novel, which is when most of HR happens, so I suppose it's plausible. I've been meaning to do some checking on the exact time of day for the days after that since there's overlap though.
loving this... love the new armor abilities. love the new graphics (only playing MP for now). Love the incredible variety of gameplay; love elite slayer (could play that all day) Headhunter and Firefight. Love the polished, complete package.

I guess he and Halsey survived. She's pretty crafty.
It was cool to see how Halsey and Jorge responded to each other in the Oni base. You could tell there was mutual respect. She kind of ragged on Carter and the other Spartan IIIs, but her tone was different with Noble 5. It was clear he was one of her Spartan IIs. And in the Corvette mission, Jorge accessed a computer to check the status of the Oni base demolishion to see if she escaped.
It's cool little story elements like that that tie in well with the background story in the books.
I think you're correct. Spartan IIs are in general bigger and stronger. That is why Jorge is bigger than the others.
I also thought it was interesting in that same meeting with Halsey and Noble team when Carter gives the order to move out, Jorge waited until Halsey said it was ok to leave. Not sure if Jorge knew she out ranked Carter, or if it was just loyalty.

Carter is a military personnel and a Commander at that while Dr. Halsey is just a civilian with a post at ONI. Either way Winter Contingency has been declared so any power she had was at that point was null.
The thing is the way she behaved in the game is exactly the way she behaved in the novels but inside she means well.
Yeah spartan 3 arent suppose to have mjonir armor. But they are just as strong but missing the thoroid implant that makes spartan 2 like giants.
The rest is all the same but the improvements had very high to 100% success rate. And no hard screening just taking the children that survived a glassed planet let their anger for the covenant keep them royal to the unsc. Spartan 2 were used for behind enemy lines rebels insertion to take out their leaders so they had to have a better so they dont desert and join the rebels. Their is one misformed spartan 2 that was about to join the rebels.

I got the impression from the books she was a very high level intelligence operative with commensurate security clearance. So I assumed that she could pull rank on everyone except perhaps an Admiral, at least the books seemed to portray her this way. Perhaps she just acted like she had this kind authority though?

Well, looks like Free Gold weekend. Going to give that a try and see how I like online play on console, if it's good I'll fork over the moola for Live Gold.
So, if anyone is interested in a very VERY rusty console FPS player (last time I did a shooter on console was Halo 3 launch. ) then my Live tag is "Sslarrga" without the quotes.

Yeah kinda but she had a feeling that there was a other program running.
Because some unknown Ai/person accessed the spartan 2 project files and in the journal she talks about how a big hospital ship docked at reach without any purpose she digged around a bit and found out it was ordered to transport the spartan 2 program drugs to a unknown location and she was wondering where mendez went he disappeared like smoke. He was the spartan 2 drill master.
Finished the game, great game, may have dragged a little at the end.
The armor abilities are almost overpowered on normal (for example, the bubble shield+recharge health), and I didn't care to use them that much anyway. However they were really well done. That part where a level turns into a impromptu jetpack hopping fest was pure awesome, if not entirely realized.
Like I say, rank it second to CE. I noticed it didn't have some awesome guilty spark style almost eerie levels though. As a pure game I almost want to rank it above CE. But like I said, CE just brought a lot of new things to consoles that wont be able to be repeated, so it's hard to rank any of it's sequels higher.
Oh, I think the end 1/3 of the game becomes almost a little too dark/forbearing whatever, with the music and such laying it on a little thick. They really harped on the "this game was about a military loss" theme, which is ok but not really necessary, yeah it WAS about a loss but so what. It almost seems like Call of Duty and Halo are shadowing each other in some ways, in that MW2 kind of felt the same
with your death at the end, etc
. In other words bring on Halo 4 proper!
I also still think the game looked very nice, one of the better looking games on console, not the best. But I'm just glad as some others have said, Halo actually looks like it belongs on next gen consoles now. And still mad at bungie for how much they half assed Halo 3's graphics.
I still think this is in essence the Halo 3 engine on steroids, so I'm hopeful 343 can do even better perhaps with a ground up engine. Assuming the 343 game is on 360. Which I read something on GAF to that effect from a guy who's uncle supposedly works at 343.
The character models and armor are one of the high points though, just great. Something about them looks so real.
One thing about the armor, I'm not sure about the whole customize your armor thing, in that, your Spartan's default appearance is kind of nondescript, to put it nicely. I'm sure they did that so you'll spruce him up. That's cool, but it also means you're losing something if you just play with the default model like I did. Emile looks so cool though, frickin love his look. Kat's accent was super hot also.
After I finished campaign, I messed around in Forge world for a second, dropped a falcon and just puttered around. Great graphics there too. I kind of think a campaign level set in that environment would have been nice. But it boggles my mind how deep this game must be, not that I'll indulge all that much of it. If you think $60 is too much for games, with what a game like Halo does you're crazy. Top tier games now literally give you two games, a campaign and a equally massive multiplayer side.
Edit: after reading some other comments I'll agree the ending was pretty stupid.
I was expecting serious framerate problems after some of the comments here, but it seems pretty stable throughout. There are occasional dips, strangely with little going on, but it's nothing distracting.
That's how I felt, there are definite chugs but not the time to bother me.
In fact imo if your 30 FPS engine doesn't chug once in a while, you're not pushing it hard enough.
And wow, I just loaded up ODST to see how it looked to me after Reach. It looks like a last gen game, the difference is really huge. Try for yourself if you have ODST or 3.
