GTA: Vice City Stories (new info)!!

But that doesn't necessarily relate to that many more polygons on-screen. But nevertheless, I'm keeping them fingers and toes crossed VCS would be the title to take the CPU cap off for good.
You and me both. I would love to see what DEVs could do with it.

I read the quote in the magazine and it sounds like he was just referring to the overall total polygon count on the city.

You know like the total polygon count for Vice City could have been 5 million polygons, while the PSP Vice City Stories could be 6 million total polygons just due to the bigger size of the world.

Remember you can swim and ride on jetskis and boat so maybe they will have more water to travel in with this game also.

Then again you could ride boats in the original VC as well.. but go figure, all I know is I want this game NOW!

Damn you could couldn't you? Well I guess it's the just the sheer overall size that makes the total polygon count higher.

I wouldn't say it's a conflict of interest... generally it seems to be the prefered way to do things.

Why wouldn't someone buy the PSP game? Not only are GTA4 and GTA:SAS not the same game, but one is portable and one isn't -- they shouldn't be competing necessarily... they'd be complementary mostly. Marketing gets cheaper per product, since you can essentially market both in a single go (or awareness of one of the games can help awareness of the other).

Who knows though... I'd be surprised if there wasn't a fall/winter '07 PSP GTA. I do wonder what they'll do after that though -- port the GTA4 city to PSP engine?

I'd guess the way I'd handle this is to advertise: GTA4! Coming to a PC or xbox360 (or whatever) near you! (and in slightly smaller print) Also! Next month! GTA:SAS for your PoopStationPortable!

that way, a good portion of your market, who has the proper console/video card, goes out right away to get the hugest, realest GTA experience ever. but everybody KNOWS about the PSP version, and people who HAVE a PSP might wait and just get the PSP version, but if they'd do that, they probably wouldn't have bought GTA4 anyway. Anybody who's a fan would want GTA4. The worst idea would be to release the cheaper PSP game first, have 100,000 people buy it, and then be so busy with it they don't care about GTA4. ^^;

i can't believe how good these PSP games are getting. this is a lot better than Ridge Racer. I might be owning a PSP sometime.

Releasing GTA:SAS and GTA4 in the same quarter would be stupid. One of the two would suffer and I'd guess that it would be the PS3/360 version.

I can't believe that they are putting swimming and helicoptor flying into this game. It's just a huge  .

So is there going to be a GTA:SAS? I mean this game will be able to compete with San Andreas by itself.

Weren't helicopters already in Vice City? In fact, there were three as I recall.

None of this could be achieved without clocking the PSP to 333mhz, so can anyone tell me if Sony allows this?
They don't.

Just by the simple fact that they are using more polygons.
Never underestimate what a little optimization can do. Especially after you learned with previous title(s) about do's and don'ts of the platform.

What about the second MIPS core ? , heard the Engrish dev manuals left the pages about the second MIPS core blank so are you allowed to use it or not ?

So i guess the next thing to ask is why don't they and will they ever will. Plus how did you acquire this information?

totally ot

He's a dev and they won't because it will drain battery live much faster

we can consider the psp as the quintessential epitome of 'no free lunches' in handhelds' language - it's a potent machine which, in its potency, still cannot beat 'purpose-wise' another less potent* but similarly efficient machine. and since that latter is not hypotetical but is on the market, sony will likely always curb the potency of their machine.. bottomline being, don't expect sony to unleash the full potential of the psp while either of the next two conditons holds: (a) the ds is still on the market, and (b) a handhelds battery breakthrough has not occured.

* yet still passing the 'purpose-fittness' threshold.

I'll accept that. So does this mean the psp is more powerful than ps2? I mean i understand the screen size should be taken into acount but 222mhz? And it still looks better than ps2!?

Amazing isn't it? And the funny thing is R* still has 2 more months to optimize the game. The framerates should be a solid 30 fps.

No offence but you don't really believe that, do you? None of the GTA titles have had solid framerates and I seriously doubt this would be the first one. Besides 2 months until release doesn't mean they get to tweak the game that long, there are the necessary QA rounds etc.

I can hope can't I?
