GPS for Nintendo DS

Wait, isn't GPS supposed to recieve sattelite signals? Isn't that just downloadable maps there?

GPS is just position coordinates. You know which spot on the globe you are with it, but it doesn't say anything about what the terrain looks like. You need a computer program with map data to get info about that.

How do you do realtime tracking of your position using the internet?

Usually you would have the GPS device talk to a GSM Mobile (cell) phone via BlueTooth connection and the mobile phone then would use GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) to talk to a web-server.

I have a PDA with built in GPS (a Mitac Mio 168) and use it for car navigation, using TomTom Navigator and Memory Map for on foot. Very handy :)

That's how I understand it too, but with this DS there is no built-in GPS receiver? I have this little GPS for my laptop btw.

Ok I think I know where the confusion is. Fox5 was saying that the DS GPS hack was just a software app that needed a GPS receiver for getting satellit signals which I also thought was the case, but upon closer inspection it looks like it's a complete GPS system with a receiver attached.
