GPS is just position coordinates. You know which spot on the globe you are with it, but it doesn't say anything about what the terrain looks like. You need a computer program with map data to get info about that.

Usually you would have the GPS device talk to a GSM Mobile (cell) phone via BlueTooth connection and the mobile phone then would use GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) to talk to a web-server.

That's how I understand it too, but with this DS there is no built-in GPS receiver? I have this little GPS for my laptop btw.
Ok I think I know where the confusion is. Fox5 was saying that the DS GPS hack was just a software app that needed a GPS receiver for getting satellit signals which I also thought was the case, but upon closer inspection it looks like it's a complete GPS system with a receiver attached.
