I have my computers connected to my hk101 amp using optical, got a home theatre setup, computers are at right angles to my tv though, so have to play games using tv out if I want proper positional sound. It's perfect for playing divx ac3 movies from the computer though, lol. Gave up on computer speakers, they all sound puny to me and you have even more wires to deal with.
Headphones sound like a nice solution for playing using the computer monitor. Worth considering, but then again, I hate headphones, so probably not.. lol
