Got my GBA SP Platinum

Sold out everywhere except Target in Bay Area, but I'm heading on a business trip to London next week and needed something to tide me over. I hated the look and feel of the GBA, the non-lit screen, the non-rechargeable battery, but the external case design/ergonomics of the GBA SP are sweet, as is the new lit screen, and recharge battery.

Looks like Nintendo finally did something right for us adults.

Super Monkey Ball Jr, Golden Sun for now. Probably gonna pick up a few more for the flight like the Wario minigame one. Basically, just looked at gba.ign.com Editor Choice awards and picked which ones appealed to me.

Advance Wars is a must... although I guess at this time it makes more sense to wait for the sequel (although you can probably get the first one for less).

Thanks. Any suggestions for a good shooter ala R-Type or Metal Slug?

There aren't many good R-Type style games on the GBA but I've heard that Iridion II (not the abysmal Iridion 3D!) is quite good. There's a Metal Slug for the GBA in the works, no word on a release date though.

Contra Advance is great but it's only a remake of the SNES-game with two additional levels from the Genesis-version. And then there's Ninja Five-0 which is not so much a shooter but more a Bionic Commando/Shinobi-hybrid but it's one of the best sidescrollers on the systems (I wonder why this game got absolutely zero hype...).

Also, any RPGs? (besides Pokemon)

Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age are hands down the best RPGs on the GBA. Then there are two solid SNES-remakes of the Breath of Fire series and Lunar Legend (which imo is quite boring though). And there's the Mega Man Battle Network series but this is not your typical RPG and might not be to everyone's taste. The three Castlevania games (of which Aria of Sorrow is the best and Harmony of Dissonance the weakest entry) have some strong RPG elements too but they're sidescrolling action adventures and not RPGs (they're still great though).

Good going demo. I love my Platinum GBASP, but out on the beach the thing is too bright with the sun refecting off of it. But other than that it's probably the be "next gen"system of anything out right now afaic.

Super Monkey Ball Jr. is awsome. Especially when you unlock both golf courses. Either Golden Sun is incredible. And Wario Ware is the best pick up and play game since Tetris. My greatest gaming purchase of the year besides Zelda WW for GCN. Iridion II is short but very nice and Karnaaj Rally (if you can find it) is a great racer. Enjoy your GBA SP there is alot of great stuff in the pipeline as well.

Call me a nay sayer, but I still can't believe the lack of a headphone out. Just when you think they do something right... :?

True, but the adapter isn't that bad. I got a MadCatz travel kit that includes a sweet little carrying case plug everything.

What would have been worse is leaving out the frontlight, for me atleast.

WhAT WHAT WHAT
no Headphone jack
man youd think they wouldny include speakers and just include a headphone jack
what a dissapointment?

It's not for everyone, but I enjoyed Breath of Fire II much more than Golden Sun.

Capcom even left the spellling and grammar mistakes in the game 8)

Metroid Fusion is excellent, if a tad short and far too linear.

Umm... what else..

Oh, right.

Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis if you like turn-based strategy. 8) Can't list GBA games without pimping Ogre Battle Saga, now can I?

I like the ergonomics of the Original GBA, with the Afterburner installed the screen is lovely and visible (anyone know how the SP screen compares with a well installed Afterburner?).

Agreed. And apparently a correctly installed Afterburner is more or less identical to an SP's screen.

NO HEADPHONE JACK? HAHAHAHHAHA...
