*God Of War 3 Thread v2.0 + Interview Stig Asmussen

Yeah, Kratos is pretty buff but FAR from a roid junkie. The character is rounded enough overall for an action game and he IS supposed to a brute Spartan. Despite preferring NG and at some point, DMC, he's a much better protagonist than Ryu or Dante.

Things really haven't changed at all. If you've grown a little tired of the combat after the first few games, this one doesn't really do anything to spice it up, other than the visuals.

There are changes, but certainly not an overhaul not unlike other action games out there. Juggling is good now, and there are two types of magic (item and weapon specific), and the grapple (L1+O) opens up a door for infinite combos. There is a 1000 hit trophy in fact. Furthermore, I think the enemy AI is definitely a huge step up from the previous games.

That said, I'm just ecstatic that I'm playing a game with puzzles and not a "fight in this area, move on and repeat" action game.

EDIT: If anyone hasn't picked up the game, save $40 and DON'T get the CE. It's a waste not unlike the Batman AA one.

Kratos angry! Kratos smash!

He's smarter than that.

My impression of him actually improved after watching the GoW3 demo. I thought he was just a simpleton too. The way the battles are designed... He turns out to be surprisingly effective and resourceful on the battlefield, like using the enemies' own assets to deal critical damage back to them. He also wasted no time in going for the throat. e.g., Stabbing the Chimera through its eyes with its own horn.

I was watching a young friend play the game.

At that moment, I thought may be the fans like Kratos because at certain level, they were admiring his unabashedly "honesty" (read: brutality) in achieving his goals. The excessive blood was a matter of getting his job done, despite getting his hands dirty.

I totally agree. He's a more mature Kratos. Specially towards the end of the game.
The way he responds to characters he meets and confront them. But I didn't feel that much anger in his voice tone compared to the previous GOW titles.
As for the game itself I so love thet last weapon you unlock. It's just that badass the way it is animated and the way it is used. When I gained it I mostly forgot about the other weapons excepted for one or two where you had to use their special abilities to beat certain type of ennemies.
The Boss battles are just insane but I would have loved more real gameplay slashing with few of them.

I would have loved a battle with the human form of Poseidon. Maybe a concrete fight with Helios and longer one with Hermes.
The most most memorable boss fight I had was still the Hades fight, and the first confrontation with Zeus near the end.

I have almost finished the game in normal mode, 10 hours. Oh yeah I died a couple of times jumping and falling from nowhere lol. Sometimes the double jump +gliding didn't work properly but that's just all.

The game is so well done you couldn't stop and when you reached a save point you just say " okay , till the next one....oh no...Let's continue a little bit...Damn...till the very end "

Ha ha ha, or the game is just really gory and sensationalist!

It is indeed gory and sensational. But people will react to it differently, the same way some (kids) identify themselves with celebs through/despite their outrageous public actions.

Kratos is as far from realistic built people as possible. I mean even this guy can't touch him (he's 211cm tall):

Hint: his head is too small relative to his body...

Well played my man

Now that build is questionable as to its purity. The roid junkies I've seen are incredibly odd looking.

It's said that HGH(human growth hormon) might make bones in head grow. This guy is seriously big... To me he looks bigger than kratos ;)

But I guess gow3 is truly testament of excellence as we are now arguing about as stupid matters as it gets(i.e. is fictional game character that beats gods and titans realistic enough looking)

I think this all started because I said he was a roided freak, or something like that. Sorry that it lead to this weird discussion. I wasn't expecting my comments about him being a pantless tribal-tattoed roided hippy mma-fueled He-Man so literally or seriously. It was just a joking exaggeration meant to illustrate how much I despise Kratos in his entirety. There was no intent to derail this thread with links to the history of pants, or images of athletic craniums and their relative human proportions. Oh, and Kratos sucks. After every fight he should throw on a "Tap Out" shirt and chug some powerade.

Maybe in Europe, but it's not far from realistic in America. Europeans aren't really that into hitting the weights right? At least that's what I've heard from various people. I see people with Kratos build at my gym. Not to mention athletes like pro football players, gymnasts, track and field athletes etc.

Please. Kratos build is not that spectacular. My mates that i train with at the gym are atleast as big as Kratos, without using any steroids. Hell, some have more muscles showing than him.

Kratos muscle mass and appearance looks pretty much like any guy would look if he heat healthy and trained 5 days a week for a 2 years. Ofcourse genetics will determine how "big" you can become, but kratos is not partiuclarly wide.

Corrected. :D

PS: My Amazon order has dispatched, might get the game tomorrow, for my bday woohoo!!

After about 6hour in:

The best game I have ever played.

-Gameplay is perfect.

-The boss battles are unbelievable.

-For me, the new graphics king (I never thought that I say this again after Killzone 2...heck, I even was sure that Killzone 3 graphics cannot compete with Killzone 2 graphics;-)).

-Great story (it is so cool that they connect everything from the old GOW games).

-Funny and interesting puzzling.

-"Platforming" is very fluid and easy-going (some people complain about the double jump not registering, no problem for me up to now, works perfect everytime...and I use it a lot).

-The game gets better and better...

=>Kratos, is the god of games if you ask me.

Just beat Poseidon and I think it's probably the most exhilarating boss battle I've ever played! Awesome lighting and animation, just imagine what they could have done if they locked the framerate at 30fps.

It's not about hitting the weights - it's about the head's size relative to the body. It's pretty common in arts (even in classical sculpture, but especially in modern comics) to exaggerate the proportions of heroic characters; whereas the average man is 7-8 head lengths tall, these guys usually end up 8-9 heads tall, or even bigger.

It's because the size of the human head (eyes, brain mass etc) is usually quite constant, so the smaller it looks compared to the rest of the body, the larger and taller that person feels even in an instinctive way. On the other end, larger head means shorter person, and extremely large head with big eyes means a baby, immediately invoking the parental instincts.
Usually you can tell how tall a person is just based on a full body photo without anything else around for reference, just based on the size of the head. Of course there are exceptions, but they're not too common and definitely not extreme.

the water in the river styx section is great looking.
Yea it looks great, I mentioned that once here.
But it doesn't ripples lol...is it so hard for games to have normal maps for atleast the ripples made during swimming or moving through water ? Cause I've seen an awful lot of games don't bother having any kind of ripples be it scripted or dynamic..they'd rather have those ugly sprites. :devilish:
