Geforce FX will cost $450

Actually I think the Germans and the English get on alright - as long as there's beer involved :)

Seems that a $450 price tag may not be fiction - DDR-II is probably still at a premium, as could be the .13um process and the 10-layer PCB and HSF mechanism may not be cheap.

Interesting that they currently (may still change) have gone to 10 layers with the 128-bit bus, whereas ATI managed to move back down to 8 on the 9700 even with a 256-bit bus.

Do you know for a fact that ATI is using 8 Layer PCB for the 9700 / Pro? I had not heard of ATI confirming or denying PCB construction.

OT:
Does anyone like the French? ;)

DaveBaumann[/url]]FYI, just to clear that up - talking with Brian Skelton from Sapphire (who are the company that manufactures most of the ATI boards for ATI and other vendors) he stated that the production R300 boards are 8 layer boards, not 10.

This has been reported elsewhere as well.

$500 for the STANDARD, non-ultra version? That can't be right. ATI's gonna steamroller them if that's the price they'll end up at, I can't believe they'd actually price their product that high.

Ultra version I'd MAYBE accept $500, but not standard. If the standard runs at 400MHz core/mem as rumored it won't be much faster than the 9700 Pro and like $200 more expensive. That's a bad combination.

And if standard = 500, ultra must surely be 600 in that case and that's quite simply rediculous. I'll believe this when I actually see the price stickers themselves, not before...

Yes, but the Ultra version will be able to take care of your children, cook delicious Egg Foo Young, and it will cheat on your taxes for you. $800 will be well spent.

Some here may recall a nVidia press release concerning the CPL winter event (gaming competition)
http://www.corporate-ir.net/ireye/i...&item_id=360408

well, the event has concluded and an interesting rumor has arisen from the event.
http://www.avault.com/events/p4we2k2/index.asp?p=geforcefx
... The 128MB GeForceFX will be released in January or February, likely priced around $300. ...

Needless to say if this turns out to be true it will blow current price predictions out the window.

NVIDIA's retail price based on their reference design and 3rd party manufacturer's street price are two totally different things.

Remember- the Ti4600 is still, to this day, retailed at $399.99, and has been since it was initially released. I know of only two (2) manufacturers that still sell Ti4600's for $399, and that's for the full-blown, VIVO/Capture, dual-output DVI/VGA and tuner/svideo jacks Ti4600's. Everyone else's "gaming" Ti4600 doesnt have capture/video-in, is missing the DVI port and simply has a TV-Out Svideo + VGA 15 pin, and cost over $100+ less.

GTS Ultra's were the same way, with some models over $400 with all the bells and whistles, and this was the reference design. NVIDIA reference design is the full-featured card, and 3rd parties then make the stripped versions- less capture, less TIVO/tuner, less dual DVI outputs, cheaper DDR memory/filters and knock out $100+ off the price for the retail "gamers card", which then people buy OEM and save another 10-15% at least. :)

No, I don't think anyone like us :(
But on the other side a lot of people seem to like our country ;)

Quote from Mark Twain's Letters from the Earth:

"When God created man, he placed him just below the angels, and just above the French........"

Oh! Forgot the ;)

Militarily, I just wish...for ONCE...that you guys would be on our sides for once.

It's funny, because when I was @ Bragg, we used to train with French troopers almost every summer...and yet, whenever there was a conflict, we never used to bump into those dudes.

Well, the French got all their fighting out of their systems back in the 19th century. Of course, they did take on most of Europe at the time!

I think the problem may be that many people probably visit Paris rather than other areas. I found the French positively friendly in regions outside of the capital!

Especially after N of those 1-litre steins at Oktoberfest (and I don't normally even drink beer)!

I think I will wait the low priced .13 micron DX9 cards.

OT: Paris people are

Would you really want them there in combat?

Apparently they can do things with a baguette that would make your eyes pop out.
