Accroding to http://www.warp2search.net/article.php?sid=9147&mode=&order=0&thold=0 Geforce FX suggested retail price is $450 USD. If that's true, it will mean in UK it will could cost over <edit>£500<edit> - especially since in UK we always pay more for nvidia cards then people in USA (amongst 1000's of other stuff). I don't know about you, but there's no way I'm gonna be paying that for a gfx card - I hope that's just a early price estimate, as I don't know how NVIDIA expects to make good sales at these prices, and we don't even know if that's the price of the Ultra card or not!

Anyone cares to make a comment?

What version, the ultra ( with that cooler ), or the non-overclocked one?

And when will it go for sale? March, September, 2010??

Many questions........

well teh 9700Pro was $399 at launch and between £300 and £350 here. (now its dwon to £250).

So I think for some reason we have better pricing than we used to have, and for the Gf4 range we pretty much had $1 to £1, so I would expect £350-£400 here, certainly not > £400.

Hard to justify a GfFX for £400 though when a 9700 non-pro is sub £200 already. Maybe £180 by Feb.

When it comes to ATi, it's mainly because there are now many more AIBs catering for the European market with strong distribution footholds. In particular, Hercules and Sapphiretech have firmly established themselves and prices have fallen as a consequence.

MuFu.

Then keep your eyes out for the NV31/NV34 cards that should be released in April. Both should cost significantly less. I know I'm very interested in seeing what those cards are capable of.

Edit:
Actually, there are supposedly going to be two versions of the GeForce FX at launch, so there is little reason to care that much about the high-end one costing around $450 as long as the slower one is more reasonable.

How do you know it's the high end one that's $450. They said it was an FX, not an FX Ultra :)

I think it's pretty safe to say $450 is for the faster version. Otherwise, Nvidia's pretty much scroowd. Simply put, they're not that stupid, alright? :)

Most of the EU countries have Euro, with a few exceptions like UK and Sweden. I don't know about UK but Swedish politicians seams to be positive to joining EMU, the people aren't as convinced though, it's like 50-50 right now. I'm for it though. There will be a referendum about it next year.

Leaping off the topic as usual.

Over here the politicians try to avoid talking about it too much because it's a shoot-in-the-foot issue for both major parties (but particularly the Tories - Blair is PM for as long as he wants because of the Euro issue).

I don't think most of the people care very much. I'm rare in holding an opinion. I went from being agnostic, to being very pro after reading an insight (by Roy Hattersley) stating that it's inevitable Europe will become a federal state and if the UK wants any influence it should get in ASAP. Now I'm agnostic again because of the mess that is the Euro economy (while the UK's is relatively pretty strong at the moment).

Don't think anybody knows what will happen here.

You're assuming they want to sell a lot of these things. If they have to sell them at a loss, they may not want to sell a lot--they may just want a placeholder in the high-end market until successor chips that they are happier with are available (pure speculation)

Roy Hattersley's argument (a convincing one in my view - it was in his book 'Fifty Years On') is that, eventually, it's inevitable - there has been a steady evolution towards it and it will continue.

Within the EMU you mean?

To an Australian that is a very unpleasant concept.

 The mind boggles!

You think Europe is really headed toward USE? (United States of Europe)

That's the theory. In practice:

The English don't like the French or Germans. The French don't like the English. The Portuguese don't like the Spanish. The Spanish don't like the French. The Walloons don't like the French Belgians. The Netherlanders don't like the Germans etc. etc. etc.

Add to this mix the lack of a common language and plenty of mutual distrust and self-interest and you can see how unlikely it is that there will be a USE in the near future.

At present the Politicians (generally) want to be united and the people (generally) don't. After 10 years of the Euro, assuming the economies are doing well, perhaps views will change, but I'd tend to doubt it.
