I'm curious who else is attending this year.
It'll be my first time visiting GDC in a classy branded shirt.

I'll be there, but probably just with an expo pass this year. I'll probably try to switch out with some friends to check out a few of the sessions.

All I ask is that you come back here with notes. :p

:( I'm going to be disappointed, aren't I? :D

One thing puzzling me...Epic keeps saying UE4 NDA's arent their decision, I believe this is the second interview I've read it in now:

http://www.computerandvideogames.co...ter-in-2012/?cid=OTC-RSS&attr=CVG-General-RSS

That's what the studio told assembled press at GDC yesterday, adding that the decision to put its UE4 demo behind closed doors - and viewing developers under non-disclosure agreement - at the conference "wasn't our decision".

So if it wasn't epic's decision, who's was it? And why? Why wouldn't Epic control their own creation? I'm befuddled.

It makes me wonder if somehow the only UE4 demos are somehow connected to a next gen game that somebody has under lock and key? Anybody think of any other explanations?

Edit: The CVG comments under the article I linked all seem to think it's related to Durango. I figured it must be relating to MS somehow, but...

I wonder if they're planning "Wow look, Durango running UE4/Samaritan in real time" later this year or something? I think I might be on to something...not sure though. Mainly not sure because I'm still skeptical of Durango even hitting in 2013, but in any case I'd doubt a 2012 reveal.

It still doesnt answer why Epic couldn't just show UE4 running on a high end PC...

That makes sense. Epic got away with it with the Gears assets for UE3 but if Epic shows UE4 -- and it is highly likely it is being co-developed with a game in view -- it gets the "cat out of the bag" so to speak on some companies (MS/Sony) next big IP.

Yeah, there's definitely something going on there

The developer hopes a public showing of UE4 could arrive later this year but it's "not up to us" says Epic.

So apparently we may not even see it in 2012? Eww.

Keiji Inafune To Japanese Developers: Don’t Rest On Your Laurels
http://www.siliconera.com/2012/03/08/keiji-inafune-to-japanese-developers-dont-rest-on-your-laurels/

Former Capcom executive Keiji Inafune took the stage at Game Developer’s Conference to discuss the future of Japanese games. While he was still at Capcom, Inafune was critical of Japan’s place in the video game market saying "Japan is dead" during Tokyo Game Show in 2010.

Neat. I hear they used this to play some kind of pong in a real environment?
