Gates/XBox bringing the PC distribution model to consoles?

Honestly if we're going to discuss something, it should be something beyond whether or not Microsoft is even going to do it, since they themselves likely don't know at this point. Certainly that Gamespot quote does nothing to disprove it any more than the original Bill Gates inference does something to prove it.

Let's just assume they were going to do it - what then?

according to gamesindustry.biz, it is Xbox360..

Well we're both wrong. however did you read the article you linked to? They say this is about software. MS lincensing the dashbord software to others. it's perfect for DVD players or TV's or things like that.

xbdestroya, relax it doesn't seem like they are doing what many people thought. This isn't a hardware license it's a software license.

Yeah that's what it's looking like after reading that second article. Oh well! Still a smart move for them then, as there are no negatives I can think of and some fairly decent upside potential. Not as dramatic a topic to discuss now though. :)

This will never work. Wouldn't the Samsung or whoever makes a HD-DVD/PVR/Xbox have to have the GPU and CPU capabilities to port certain games to it? If so then who would make games for these machines?

No no, the way it would have gone is they would have bought a compliant chipset (and the requisite chips) from MS and integrated it into their tv set, hd-dvd player, whatever - and then you would have been able to play XBox 360 games on it because in effect, it is an XBox 360.

WTF you're still arguing about this?

Man you're touchy! If you're done with the thread you would have thought you would be done posting in it. :p Anyway no I'm not arguing anything, but I am correcting Mckmass on a bit of misplaced logic. ;)
