Gamasutra article about Splinter Cell (PS2)

heh I've finished it twice and was totally unaware of the Zoom function (makes mental note to read the mannual).

still freelook or no it's pointless in a title that has tsuch short draw distance for most of it's duration.

EDIT:

OT does anyone know how to get the Possession ending in SH3? I've tried some faqs but no such luck.

If someone found a code to disable the fog (like ICO, someone found a code to disable to fog and added a free roaming camera with the 2nd controller, it is very neat), you will know if the draw distance is that short or the LOD engine masks the stuffs with the fog.

It would be great if there is free roaming camera in SH3.

edit: BTW, the L3 button thing is not in the manual.

*** Spoiler alert ***

You need a total of 4000 points or above to get possessed ending, the marks are

Enemies killed by shooting + 10 x Damage taken + Forgive Claudia in the confession booth at the Chapel.

SH3 has limited rotation, at least not as free willy as SC. It will snap back behind Heather by default. L2 can only look left/right a lil and small up/down with the right stick. You can move Heather with the left stick, the view will change but it still snaps back.

And many a times, you are stuck with minimal to zero camera rotations. Oh did i mention that Heather has much much less interaction with the backgrounds?

I have not heard of the L3 though....how does it zoom? To fps mode and you get true free willy 3D?

And with the left stick you can *completely freely* rotate the camera around.

I don't see what the argument here really is. Camera paths in SH3 are only limited for the purpose of making the game more cinematic looking. It's clear as day everything there is in it is rendered in a way that it could be presented with any kind of camera you can think of, and most of the time you actually can manipulate the camera any way you want.

It is limited user controllable rotation, the game rotates a lot especially when you press L2 when you are running/walking around something, button L3 will zoom in a bit for checking out things.

In some rooms, the view is completely locked but the purpose is to let you focus on what you are supposed to do than looking somewhere else. It is a game anyway, not a horror mansion excursion software.

BTW, something OT, currently playing Viewtiful Joe and it is actually very interesting and funny.

how is it? I hear good things like it's old skool twitch gaming and hard as hell.

The characters are funny and the animation is better than I expected. The slow motion thing is sexy, it is not really hard. It is like Mario World type but replace Mario with Joe that fights in a very Viewtiful way.
