Fun with Metroid Prime!

Ok ok... I didn't mean to be too harsh... the rooms are not LOW poly, but they could still need some more polygons in the background... clever shading and texturing make appear like there were more polygons that there really are...

See also: Brilliant art direction.

See also: Nitpicking taken to the Ludicrous.

Ok... what is YOUR problem ?

I have posted before and ADMIRED Metroid Prime art direction and lauded the artists for the texture variety and for having taken a good engine and make it look gorgeous...

I think that if you had given the Metroid Prime engine to a less talented group ( artists-wise ) the game that would have resulted would have been MUCH less impressive than what Metroid Prime ended up being.

That is the point I was trying to bring across...

I am glad I brought something to a ludricrous point for you, you seriously need to laugh some more...

You can notice by observing the Z-fighting of the decals and especially by morphing to ball mode and observe the Vertex Lighting on the walls ( look at those rocky surfaces you have in some caves... )...

You can also notice that some edges aren't totally rounded, they seem a bit edgy... and... waitaminute, there's aliasing! WHAT'S GOING ON HERE! Oh... wait, we're working within some limits here. Oops.

I see that a local female has her claws out...

I never even noticed the game was using vertex lighting...

That is not my problem... the game, unless developers have stated otherwise should be using per-vertex lighting ( it does look like it )

And finally, the decals you're referring to are PRONE to Z-fighting - they're trying to be perfectly coplanar, occupying as close to exactly the same space as physically possible. As I said, even a ridiculously overprecise, standard 32-bit Z-buffer will freak out in those situations.

Even if you only shoot a single beam and see the single decal half covered and half not ? Your case seemed to be that my problem was the spinning and shooting on the ground while doing so... again this was not the only case that showed the issue...

Also... before opening your jaws and trying to pick me by the neck scolding me like a little puppy, I'd like you to think over it... would you like it to be treated the same way or would you ban the person who did this ?

I'd like to notice that you did this twice in this thread.

It shouldn't be a problem in anyone's book unless one is nitpicking purely for the sake of it.

This is a thread about nitpicking, am I correct ?

Look, I do enjoy playing the game... but I thought this was not a thread regarding gameplay and atmosphere.

Of course, but while you could say that smiling, someone else had to extract her claw and stick them in my neck and back as a reply...

Calm down as she stated in another thread she was being mean cause of women things . Chill and have a little more sympathy for all the posters as they may be upset coming into a thread and then leaving the anger in the thread when they don't mean too

I am perfectly calm... I did not insult her, I did not CAPITALIZE things... I just made a small sarcastic comment... and I also thought about the comment not being offensive to her...

Of course I cannot and won't negate the fact that I did not like the way she did attack me in an uncalled for manner in this very thread "twice"...

First time, I let it go... second time.. well...

I am trying to be understanding and I know sometimes I make similar mistakes and I do try to apologize to those posters...

It might be because of "women things", but that is not a good excuse for everything...

She jumped on my post once... ok, she might be stressed... no problem... I reply with calm... she does it again... in the same thread and I was not talking to her directly even... I was replying to someone else' post ( Grall IIRC )...

true and i respect where u are coming from but before carying on about it again after someone else responds to u you should pm her and discuses it with her in private.

That is also true and that is why I edited my second comment... I realize that too much sarcasm can hurt and it is as uncalled for as what I lamented about.

cool man , i hate bad blood esp when it can be avoid by talking through it .

I do not hate her or hold long term grudges against her... I did get quite ticked off by her remarks, but it is past history and I would be happy to talk about it calmly with her and keep on discussing friendly on these forums.

never meant to imply that u did .

I know that you did not :)

I was just explaining myself, maybe it was unneeded, but I felt like letting people knowing exactly how I felt about it.

about what u said though. I two agree that there aren't many polygons being used. But this game showed us that there are more imporant things than polygons. Textures are just as important or more important for making a great looking game. Going foward balance is going to be the most imporant factor in making games .

I agree... the problem is that next-generation will impose a lot of enphasys on artists for better and better character models and higher and higher quality textures that if we can use NURBS for environment and use their nice dynamic LOD features to make sure surfaces do use the polygons they need even the artists will be happy.

Still, this is another game that shows that artists are fundamental to a game.

and of course this game wouldn't be half as fun with out its great gameplay .

Panajev, I feel that I should offer you a public apology... sorry I was so mean earlier, for no reason.

I've been a bit miserable all day today and it's mainly from PMS (there are other reasons, but I'd prefer not to discuss them.).

If you look at my posts around that same time, out of five or so posts only one of them isn't mean in some aspect. That's actually a new record for me

I am sorry to hear you were so stressed and that you felt miserable :( ( there is nothing fun in feeling miserable ) and I absolutely accept your apology: it is past history and we are both calm now and we can see things more clearly :)

I hope you do feel better :)
