From the good to the downright annoying

Bollocks. Just back from my doctor - I've been diagnosed as having Meniere's Disease. Arse, bugger, goddamnit; that means having to tell the DVLA, filling in countless medical forms...if they take my driving licence off me, I'll go bok!

Stupid ears. ;)

Mé·nière's disease (mān-yârz') pronunciation
n.

A condition of the inner ear characterized by dizziness, ringing in the ears, and progressive loss of hearing. Also called Ménière's syndrome.

It's a disease you catch, isn't there a cure?

No cure as such, although one can take medication (as I am) to reduce the probability of having severe vertigo attacks; there are operations than can also be done to remove the excess fluid/pressure but again, this is addressing the symptom and not the actual cause (which isn't known anyway).

Ouchies man! This sucks.

Though - and I don't know if this is actually any comfort to you :) - I'd personally rather be deaf than blind. ...Though I hope you won't actually go deaf of course. Vertigo attacks do seem to be a major bummer tho, and I don't think it would be responsible of you to continue driving with such a possibility looming over you. You don't want to find out what it feels like knowing you injured or even killed one or more persons because you had an episode behind the wheel and lost control of your car...

Sorry to hear about it, but glad it's been identified and you have some treatment options. Don't feel bad about the "being on meds for life" thing, ya get pretty used to it after a while and it ain't no biggy.

(6 pills a day to keep me bloodpump moving smoothly here. )

Have you decided on a treatment yet or have you begun the medications?

huh it's never good to get ill, but at least there should be some medications in order to help :?

disease o_O

I'm currently on betahistine's to reduce the likelihood of having any more vertigo attacks; only downside to them is I get headaches from them.

Betahistines? Are those like antihistimines but a different name? (I asked my wife and here first question was, "Are they from England?")

Ah, thanks...you taught me and me wife something this morning. :)

I hope you're feeling better, and hopefully the headaches will decrease as your body adjusts to the meds. I had problems with that when I started some of my heart meds, but the side-effects really did clear up after about a week and haven't bothered me since.
