Forza 5 [XO] *large pics inside*

I've been playing Forza since the Xbox days and never liked the overly saturated look which persisted in 2 and 3 (and looks like 4 too, though I never got it).

It was grating that GT4 on PS2 had more realistic looking vehicles, despite Xbox being more powerful - it's like if Killzone 1 looked better than Halo!).

It's a driving sim for god's sake, no point having realistic handling if the graphics are toony.

But you're right we shall see whether gameplay looks like that.

But gameplay rendering too? Or replay mode with better lighting, shaders and effects?

I'm guessing the latter.

No it's a real thing, even DF mention it in their analyses

Forza 1 and Forza 2 exhibited it best with their lighting and artstyle improving since F3.

The shot from F3 illustrates what I mean:

 I see what you did

if you think that this look toony you must be blind at all, anyway please avoid talking about other games and keep this thread clean on Forza5, if you want to talk about GT, there's a thread for it

i guess we can expect this quality for replays at 1080p/30fps, maybe with some aliasing.

But i'd like to see what it'll look like during actual gameplay. We'll have to wait untill E3.

it's already a big step up from xbox360, and it's a launch title.

There is an inevitable comparison to the other major car franchise on the other platform, or other driving games. eg. "I hope the sounds in GT are improved like NFS" in a discussion about GT, or "I hope Polyphony add feature xxx like Forza". A comparison of visual styles seems appropriate to me, as the higher saturation of Forza and, certainly in the earlier games, weaker handling of oversaturation in highlights, did present a less realistic rendering than GT.

Whatever comparisons are made, they need to be in the context of Forza as a game evaluated against its peers. Respectful comparisons part of proper arguments are acceptable.

What they showed made me think PGR, could it be they will blend a PGR style into the game?

Would be a neat concept, give me all the sim tracks.
Then give me an arcade that is PGR5 with city tracks.

Gives me a really strong PGR vibe as well.

Exactly. It seems like they are incorporating some of the PGR 'feel' into it and I think that's good.

Anyway, as for the look of the game, the lighting presented in this trailer looks very good but still stylish, ditto the way the materials and shaders look. Given the series progression and the advanced hardware it becomes obvious that this 'look' or art style is intentional. You might like it, you might not. Its like comparing Killzone to Halo, or Arma to BF etc. Even the first Crysis and its sequels have very different art style. The first one went for that photorealistic look while its sequel where more stylish.

Personally I don't have a problem with it. I am just happy that we are getting to a point whereby developers are getting to realise their vision and art.

So there's going to be a Forza every year ? With this overexposure it's not a boutique game anymore...
I'm not sure i like it this way .

If anything, I'm loving the really nicely done modelling/materials work on the teaser. The models are as perfect as they go for realtime renders. Crazy.

Drive Club's stuff seems great, but it doesn't seem like they've hired the industry's best car modellers - if you catch my drift ...(this pun hurts). Things still feel a bit lodged between generations. Iunno, perhaps it's such detailing on the assets, instead of the engine work itself, that'll be what determines the art quality of this generation.

Yeah, PGR had amazing looking city tracks - put Forza's to shame.

Lucid Games were teasing a new racing game, apparently PGR5 I wondered what happened to it?

I think they should rename one of the sub titles like Horizon to something different and not milk the Forza name.

I'd much rather a proper new PGR, but this looks nice. Kudos.
Yayayayay! I want a PGR game too. PGR2 is one of the most fun, most addicting racing games I've ever played and I kinda miss the series.

This is the cover of Forza 5 (I think I am in love with the cases of new generation consoles) :) , by the way:

FM4 new lighting virtually eliminated that effect.

I think 5 looks great especially in certain light, have to see it in real time and it's still early but I'm getting it day 1

After just putting about 17 hours into Forza Horizon. Methinks 5 will bring in a lot of the similar PGR gameplay elements into the new game.

I probably won't be getting Forza 5, but I'm sure sim racer fans on Xbox will want T10 to keep the main series as a true sim racer, and continue with the Horizon series as a separate game. At least that's what I would want. I played Forza Horizon and the physics were far too arcadey for my liking (yes with all assists off). Not that I'm against arcade racers... they're just not my cup of tea, and they should keep them separate IMO.

Argh! That supidly high-res pic is giving my browser a hard time. It's always better to put big pictures like this inside spoiler tags. Nice pic though.
