Flash Drive problem

My mom got a SanDisk 2.0GB Flash drive and she backed up all of her important files onto it. She then re-installed Windows XP Pro and now Windows won't recognize it. She plugged it into my dad's laptop and it says that it hasn't been formated. A. Is she screwed? B. If so how could you put files on to it if it weren't formated?

Did it come with an application to format it. I have a Corsair 4gb stick that can be partitioned using their software only. If I put it in another computer, only the first partition is readable. It's actually quite handy for keeping private files from prying eyes.

No it didn't, it does have two partitions though. The one she put her files on was the one that popped up right away.
