Final confirmed Jan NPD's

As for Wii, it's impressive in the sense that PS2 is impressive, which is to say it hardly matters at all. It could be fully expected that it does well immediately but it's also fully expected to fall by the wayside later on.

Heh. In the run up to the Wii launch, it was "fully expected" that it would bomb horrifically and the PS3 would stomp all over it and the 360.

I think history has taught us not to rely on "expectations," and to let things simply play out. ;)

It's been a lot harder to find PS3's in February than in January. I don't think that will happen.

Does anyone have information on shipped #s? I wonder if Sony has lessened their shipments in order to work through the current inventory, given the current rate of sales around the world.

I think it will still happen like that though, just not so quickly.;)

Assuming it has become more difficult to find PS3s, is that due to increased demand or is it due to other factors like preparing for other territories?

Obviously in 1 month we will know the answer to a degree, but without any new significant releases and considering the time of year it would be surprising to see a substantial spike in demand, even if it is a rebound effect, "I can find them now!"

Time to make a run to the store and start asking questions about recent sales at the local outlets as well as shipments...

Here's something to consider.

What if the PS3 numbers are from the launch momentum? Then the next few months could get ugly... I'm talking <150k ugly.

Well, what can be said other than we'll know in a month.

Personally I think Feb will be ok, and March will be pretty decent. How the summer months will go is more the question given the traditional consumer purchase cycles.

Yeah, but those people were blind to the realities around them (aka analysts); anyone with their finger on the pulse of things post E3 06 knew the score of what was to come, or rather should have.

Wonder what Tretton has to say now?

Reality is dawning for the rather over-confident PS3 executives. Too many liberties taken with their brand. It is their job to be over-confident, true, but execution is absolutely pathetic.

PS2 numbers are amazing.

I'm actually a lot more surprised with the PSP. It has been doing rather well this last few months for a supposedly dead platform. Did any big games come out?

And what the hell happened with the DS? Seems almost impossibly low. I can't believe Nintendo is still having trouble producing such simple hardware after all this time (assuming it's supply limited). They really need to get their act together.

The DS has major supply issues world wide and has for a while. PSP hardware sales have always been solid in north america it is the fact is sells almost 0 software that is the issue.

Let's just say that it is very interesting to watch the 'explanations' in this thread...

Agreed.

I think it's fair to say that even the most optimistic 360 supporter wouldn't have dared suggest it would be outselling the PS3 three months after launch in a non-supply limited environment. In terms of all the other noise out there ("more money spend on PS3 overall", "no games and still doing great", "percent movement vs January") the 360 is certainly a powerhouse out there.

The Wii of course is killing absolutely everyone's expectations too. It's a great time to be a gamer.

I ifnd it silly though that Wii is compared to the other two. Its not a matter of Wii being better or worse. Its a matter of offering something different the other two dont.

PS3 and 360 are more natural comparissons. And they offer great games. 360 really built a momentum especially after Gears of War.

Great time to be a gamer but the worst times ever for our pockets

For the first time ever I am planning to get all three of them. And after that I ll be paying for sofware for 3 consoles.....damn!

I ll be tempted to mod if I notice I ll have to sell my body to survive as a gamer

i don't see it happening. i think well actually see an INCREASE in march (and maybe even february because of VF5). from then on, i think well see numbers higher than january as more games are released. Feb has VF5, Tekken 5 DR and F1 CE. March as Motorstorm, MLB 2K7, NBA Street HC, FEAR, Def Jam Icon, Oblivion and SC DA. April has R6 Vegas, MLB The Show. May has Saints Row and Lair. and June is another big month with Heavenly Sword, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, GRAW2, Warhawk, Rogue Warrior and Singstar.

so yeah, i think starting march (or even february) sales will start to increase in N/A. and starting March 23rd, worldwide sales will increase significantly due to the European launch.

It wouldnt surprise me. I mean in January, there was only one ps3 game, Sonic (terrible imo) and it came at the end of the month (31st IIRC). Feb is better with VF5 + F1, but march+ seems to be where the content is finally coming out.
