Thanks for the shots Ben. They are much appreciated.

Why is it that every time something positive is posted about the Nv30 it is automatically assumed that is a marketing ploy to spoil the R300.

Snap, would you just pipe down with this nonsense? Ben didn't post these pictures to say here's something that Nv30 can do and nothing else can. He's just posting some pictures of things rendered on Nv30 so we can have a look.

Oh, an I'm sure you already know that Nvidia OWNS Exluna, correct? so don't be so suprised to see them using the same images on that website in demostrations of Nv30.

Do we usually see information like this from a company before they have a product to show? Not often. Why? Becuase it kills the interest in their current line of products. Of course, ATi has already done that so nvidia has to show they are still in there, so what do they do? Leak little bits of information to people and hope that they parrot them in the press, websites and forums just like beyond3d has done on the main page and Ben's doing here. Is there any other reason for it?

snap, actually in 1999 , when NVIDIA launched Geforce they had similar things months in advance (August 1999 Nvidia invited their affiliates over to introduce Geforce1 yet product wasn't on store shelves until 2 months later at least (SDR October, DDR November). In 2000, they had numerous press releasesas regarding NV20 well in advance of the actual product. Nvidia usually operates this way with a new architecture. Always have, probably always will.

What nonsense is that? Seems fairly common sence marketing to me, which is why I don't particularily care for it. If you want a 'Cinematic Shading GPU' more power to ya, but then why not get one in 20-30 days?

If NVIDIA really wants to interest people then why not show us the money, or at least give us some performance specifications?

Snap, why didn't ATI tell us in the middle of June what Radeon 9700 was all about? Or back in May when JC used it in his Doom3 demo. Because, you don't want to tip your hands too early.

In any event, I've had enough of this back and forth argument in every thread . I'll be back say the early part of September , seeya !!!

let's put it this way snap. Do you really think Nvidia just recently decided to put this informaiton regarding NV30 out there just because ATI released info on R300? Now, I'm specifically talking about the information that started the majority of discussions (the papers on the Nvidia developer website) and not the stuff ben has chosen to post himself.

So I guess all those siggraph presentations that have been planned months in advance were all just a last minute Nvidia ploy to rain on the ATI parade?

ben, I know this is a little late, but how do we know the pics you linked to in your first post are nV30 pics? The pic, in the same catalog, just previous to the bike is a guy holding a Radeon 9700 box, and previous to that the same guy holding the 9700 card.
Just curious.

Snap,

I'm just saying that while we say no hardware all this amounts to is marketing spoilers for ATi's release

I can see that you are so annoyed by this sharing of NV30 pics that you were compelled to come out of lurking mode and register. Interesting.

Anyway, even if what you say was their intention, you're going to open your mouth and bitch at them? What's wrong with hyping your own product while trying to grab attention away from your competitors products? Where were you screaming and crying when it was said that Doom 3 used ATI's next-generation hardware at E3. Where were you crying and saying that they were only doing that to spoil nVidia's GF4 release?

In any case, both companies were simply hyping their products. Nothing wrong with that.

I am sorry, but while this could be marketing, I really don't care. It's like getting a present with me. I like getting hints about what it could be or even talking about what I would like it to be.

Thanks for the pictures Ben.

What's wrong with some of you people, ben posts these images, that in all likelyhood were provided to him by Nvidia. Most of us here know ben for a while now and he's pretty much allways been spot on correct with his info. IMO he can be trusted not making up fake pics or claims unless there is a major misunderstanding between him and his sources (and he probably got a lot more carefull about what to post too since that GF3Ti incident ;) ).

Some of those images appear in Exluna's web gallery, well it happens that this company that was only just recently aquired by Nvidia, so it actually makes sense that they try to use their material for marketing! You can actually find some of the R9700 press material in website galleries too (reflective sphere demo), companies apparently like taking already created offline rendering scenes and re-create them in 3D lately, no big deal! Exluna was interesting to Nvidia because of their expertise in offline rendering, they are probably now working on implementing some of this expertise for the NV30 offline-rendering marketing or maybe also for real-time shading in games, we'll have to wait and see.

sancheuz, we can see you're a new guy so welcome, but entering a new board by slinging mud at a respected member without having your facts straigt is a pretty poor way to make yourself known...

Personally I'm pretty excited about the amount of quality the R9700 and supposed NV30 screenshots and demos have shown so far. The only scene recently that left me somewhat unimpressed was that rotating car...

Back off bucko and take a deep breath. I think this may shed some light:

Those images can be produced with anything now. Quite frankly, these pics mean nothing. Let's say that they are indeed produced on the N30? So what. It's going to take a bit more than still pics to impress, Nvidia. DELIVER THE CARD. The proof is in the pudding boys, not 2 or 3 still pics...

Um becuase its not even august yet and the Nv30 does not ship till november???

Besides who cares if its a ploy?? of course it is.. but at this point they have to.. Just like ATi had to show the R300 as soon as possible to counter act the Ti 4600 and Nv30..

While this may or may not be be some ploy on Nvidia's part (who am I to say) to spoil ATI's launch of the R300, I have no doubts that at the very least they see it as an added bonus that it does do just that (to some extent).
