Downloaded + ran 3DMk 05 - Now what?!

Big whoop. Ran like a bitch on my card too by the way, it was the fastest money could buy up until august last year. 6 FPS in the forest test, jesus!

Would have been more fun if they'd done tests that actually reflected likely game performance in the time period the program is supposed to cover. We'll have to wait until 2007 until the 05 version runs smooth as a baby's bottom with AA + all that enabled methinks. Feels rather stupid, IMO.

Is there some kind of technical description somewhere that shows what the game tests do? And while I am in whine-mode, why is it running two CPU tests, but no feature tests like in 03 and previous? Weird. I also highly dislike I can't pick which tests I want run unless I pay 20 bucks for a license to an essentially useless piece of software, because those stupid CPU tests take forever to finish on my rig. Idiot program... o_O

All that remains is to wait for next 3DMark to get annoyed at? :?

the dst issue.

Anyway i get a score of 4560 something with 2x fsaa and 16aniso on my 608/599mhz x800xt pe .

I think this does show how games will act on hardware in the future.

2130 w. no fsaa/aniso (driver set to default quality options) on 9800 Pro @ 426/375, didn't try anything better yet. Can't think it'd do any GOOD for my score tho, that's for sure...

Yes, but how FAR into the future? Certainly not the next few years, forest test can't run at much more than 15fps on your box considering you "only" got little over 2x my score.

its a feature only in nvidia cards that is used in the benchmarking , its also not part of the dx 9 specs and gives nvidia cards a 10-15% increase .

Go in to the 3dtech forums and read about it .

yea i just did it to see

Why not ? when 3dmark 2003 came out we were getting the same scores with our new radeon 9700pros and 5800ultras as we are getting on x800xts and 6800ultras with this generation.

It showed future trends. The r3x0 series being better at shaders than the fx sieres and the fx sieres being very good at stencil shadows.

to see my scores with no aa or af click here http://service.futuremark.com/compare?dm05=730

I think it will tell more about future console games than anything. Cause we all know that it will take years and years for PC games to look like 3DMark05. I think next gen consoles will be more than able to run games that look similar to 3DMark05, albeit at different resolutions of course, and with obvious RAM limitations in mind.
Find me one game today that looks like 3DMark03, apart from Doom3 or Farcry MAYBE, both released long after the test was released...

I couldn't run but the first test after my PC crashed :?
In that test thoygh, my fps were below 10
My PC AMD 64 3000 + 512MB RAM + Ati 9600XT 128MB card + Cat4.7
I did dl the DX9c, as before that the 3D mark wouldn't even start with 9b.

My PC has been behaving strangely since I installed Catalyst 4.9 drivers with MS .NET, have done a repair installation of XP that helped little, as games no longer cras as before, but 3D Mark crashes.
I hate my PC.

I basically downloaded 3dmark05 for the demo mode (because I know better than to try benchmarking on my puny system), you cannot even get the full demo without paying! :(
Seeing that the Futuremark / Remedy had their roots in the demo-scene, that is pretty sad and aggravates me quite a bit.

Yeah, I too got pissed that even the friggin demo is limited in the free version. WTF!!!!

Why not make the next 3dmark be a 260+ meg download again and upon install present a number of buttons in its interface, all of which pops up a window that says "All tests, options and settings are only available in the Pro and Business versions...(etc)"

That would be the natural progress of the way this thing is already going. Oh, and have a tip of the day window that can't be clicked away until after a minute has passed.

Yeah, very disappointing given that there's only three parts to the demo, and the one you get for free is the least impressive.

I can understand them limiting the tests, and even the res/settings of the demo, but to have people download so many bytes and you can't even give them three demo reels is just way to restrictive.

Eh? Just click "close" instead of "next".

I'm wondering if i should even bother to pay for this version at all. I loved the lil game in 2001 and 2000 was pretty funky, but evil coporate money making has started to infiltrate. Google should buy 3d mark and teach them how to not be evil.

I know, i actually brought that up with the CEO on his monthly "chat with the plebs" session he has. Turns out is too expensive to not stick limits on the high bandwidth users, and since most users don't use that much they loose performance as a result. So he's playing it as a fairness thing, so I asked why not just up capacity to which he replied "why not build a ladder to the moon? Some things have to make business sense".

Go get an account with eclipse :p WAAAAY better :p Although the golden age of broadband is over.

F**king idiots... ALL OF YOU!!!! IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT!!!!!!!!! DIEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!

What's eclipse?

Best damn ISP in the entire universe. I have their Home 1000 product with a static IP and a domain, but I could easily have up to 4 static IP's if I wanted. Customer service is top notch and they are always either first or second for performance on adslguide.org.

OH, and its a 1 month rolling contract, so no penalty payments or anything.

3d Mark 05 is so crippled in its free form that I'd guess its piracy would top any previous 3dmark.

I'd like to see a patch where you can deselect the cpu test, select a resolution, and a full demo for God's sake.

Futuremark is on the wrong track with this Crippleware approach.

Hear, hear. Cheating us out of the demo is inexcusable IMO. That's more than half the reason I downloaded the darn thing.

I think they should pay ME instead, I've served out the install file over 21 and a half times over bittorrent now (almost 6 gigs). That's gotta be worth something in my opinion...
