Direct3D 10 Technology Preview

Windows Vista RC1 Is Required for the Direct3D Technology Preview

The October 2006 Direct3D® 10 Technology Preview is only supported on Windows Vista™ RC1 (build 5600).

RC2 looks to be an interim build to test various fixes, since they also state on the downloads page that you may not be able to upgrade from RC2 to final, but you will be able to upgrade from RC1 to final.

As already stated some time ago MDX 2 will be replaced by the XNA framework.

No D3D10 support on Vista RC2?

I am just test it on my RC2 (I have multiple versions running). It does not work.

The thing is that RC1 5600 is much more polished than the later released 5728 and 5744 ("RC2"), which were both available only for a limited time period in public. On the RC2 download page, they also said that this version wouldn't have similar level of support and services via Windows Update, as the RC1 5600 has.
