DetonatorFX on Nature in 3dMark03

I probably shouldn't say this but I'd rather wait for a possible ExtremeTech article about 3DMark03 and NVIDIA card/drivers in the very near future.

Yeah Rev... ;)

Then you have to ask yourself why Nvidia is being allowed by Idsoftware to showcase a Demo of Doom-III without Forcing ARB2 mode just like the 9800pro.

I cant wait for all the debates that stem from this one, and the articles that will follow.

There will be no debates, all people care about is the FPS graph and how 'kickass' it runs out of the box. ® TM Kyle@Hardocp

So what's taking so long with this article? We've been hearing about it for the last week or so. Somehow I think this article will never see the light of day.

Seems to be a reccurring theme with nVidia drivers lately:

nVidia: OK, let's do this driver performance hack to circumvent hardware issue...
Initial Web Reviews: Looks good!
Follow-up closer inspection: Hrm...Something isn't right
Detailed analysis: Looks like nVidia is "doing this" shortcut, based on these tests...
nVidia: OK, newer drivers...
Initial web reviews: Looks good!
Follow-up closer inspection: Hrm...Something isn't right.....

Heh...we wouldn't know half as much as we do about DX9 architecture if it wasn't for all the investigation about tryting to find out what-the-hell nVidia is doing with their drivers... ;)

Was that a road tunnel or a garage? ;)

Actually that's the damned thing about it. It's supposed to be an open bridge (no roof/cieling etc., just a plain bridge, not even supporting towers or anything)
Also check the car facing me, it's a polygon wreck and I haven't even been close to it.

Also sometimes the game just halts and when it does that the whole screen gets garbled.

And if I don't use AF the textures look like they were only filtrering with point sampling

AND it appears as if the game doesn't detect that the NV3X series support compressed textures. so now it stops every now and then to load up textures with a message saying "Loading..." on screen
it doesn't do that on other cards

oh bother, this is the only game I'm playing right now
back to the 9700 I guess

The leaves (especially those falling) in those shots are all wrong (on all cards/drivers shown) relative to the REFRAST..

Edit: Not just in display, but in position/orientation too, same seed value problem as before?

Just read the extremeTech expose'. It's kind of funny to hear nVidia conveniently squawk about a "driver bug" after intentionally advertising a miraculous "50%" performance improvement for their new drivers (only in selected benchmarks, of course.) Heh-Heh....with driver bugs like that who needs good driver code?....;)

Oh, wow...Does nVidia ever learn? They were releasing "up to 50% faster" drivers (again, selected benchmarks only) back when 3dfx was in the game--same old, same old. No doubt this company is fast becoming the pyrite of the 3D card industry.

Someone tell me when it's okay to outraged and indignant yet--I just can't tell anymore with nVidia these days. :devilish:

Yay! for another Quack
I think that that's far more obvious a "cheat" than what Quack was - at least ATI had some reasonable excuse for deniability there. With this 3DMark03 thing, I can't see how nVidia could possibly attribute it to a driver bug like they have. Cookie jar; hand firmly stuck.
