Destiny [PS3,X360,PS4,XO]

As much as I like the game, and considering how much I've played it, I can't really give it anything but a good review, but I will say that I don't think it's going to have the legs I thought it would. Besides the raids, there isn't any content I haven't seen. So I'll play those, but otherwise my time with the game is pretty much done until the dlc is out. Will probably be able to play a couple other games this fall. My expectation was Destiny would take up all of the limited gaming time that I have.
Alright, get Diablo III next.

Just beat the nightfall strike with two others (lvl 28, 26... I'm 27).. f*** that was hard. It's a lot of one shot and you're dead with no restarts. Beat it on the second try. I held my own, but that was way above my skill level.

what the... suddenly i got a call from campus to come tomorrow and Its on different province. Anybody want to join me rushing through the quests? gotta finish a lot of them today, before i drive out of town tomorrow early-morning >_<

Feel like I turned yet another corner, did the Queens Wrath kill order that I'd been putting off for a while it actually was pretty dang easy after a few early deaths. And I got exactly what I was searching for, the Queens vest. That was easy, the boss hardly put up a fight and the whole strike took I dunno 30 minutes. I'm now fully kitted in 3 legendary and one exotic armor. 1 point away from level 26 which will just be one armor upgrade.

So now it's just to level them up. Resource gathering time sink...

My legendary heavy machine gun has been an absolute beast and carried me more than a few times. I was lucky and got it way before I should have given my level at the time.

I could use some more legendary weapons, I def feel like my armor is ahead of my weaponry but that will fall.

I tried it yesterday for a limited timeframe. Got the mission on Mars, lv27, only exotic is the rocket launcher. The rest is legendary and not maxed out. Felt more like a slaughter to me and suddenly the cabal really meant business. I reached the trap area after a few tries where they toasted me. Maybe I could have gone beyond that with a different strategy but at that point the game feels completely unforgivable with my equipment. My main gun was almost useless. Switching to a different gun setup would suck again because they are more or less not advanced as I don't use them most of the time.

Mine was in Venus. It wasn't super easy just once I started going slow it wasn't bad, and the boss went down easily.

I'll need about 70 shards to fully upgrade all the armor I have. Only have 6 shards.

It seems clear you realistically need three chars for fastest advancement (relating to ascendant Mat) now. Make them all the same class, farm them to lev 20 (said to be accomplishable in 4 hrs IIRC per char from 0-20), then you can give them your light armor and walla, they're 27 or whatever. This way you can both farm public events (you want the first gold PE of the day rewards which include shards) and daily strikes etc with up to 3 chars.

Not looking forward to building out 1 or 2 alts, if that's what I decide to do...

Now I'm 27. I've heard you dont want to "waste" shards on armor you may not want to keep. What would be the case where this applies? Isn't all legendary armor roughly the same? Is there some legendary armor notably poorer/better (in defense rating) than others?

I can see that if you get raid gear, in order to hit 30 you'll need to fully level that. So to me it vaguely looks like there could be a case for not using shards to advance past level 28 or so. You'd want to just hit 28 as there's no advantage to being close to 29 either (other than the slightly stronger defense that would come with upgraded armor I suppose) Then get the raid gear and work on that (if it's possible). You can get to 27 without shards, but I'm sure 27 is too much of a disadvantage in VOG. But that's the only case I see for saving shards UNLESS some legendary armor is much worse/better than others. Does anybody know if that's the case?

If it seems too hard my advice would be dont beat your head on a wall. You need more upgrades.

Of course it's a fine line what's "too hard". Being I solo everything so far, I expect some stuff to be very challenging. But I did talk about that area I entered once where I just got slaughtered, and I didn't keep trying that.

Mainly if you are below the level of your enemies, you will suffer a very significant damage penalty against them, that increases with each level down you are. So if you're level 27 against a 28 enemy you wont hit him very hard, if you're 26 against a 28 it'll be really bad. So you'll probably want to be at least equal level or above to the enemies in the mission if possible.

OT: was looking at my grimoire cards tonight and added my hours played in the various locations, it was around 50 as I expected. Plus that doesn't count tower time which could easily be several hours. And I'm typically not a very heavy gamer...

Btw, Destiny was ddos'd last night.

I figured. I tried to get on at one point with no success. Came back an hour or two later and it was good.

What makes you think it's reused? It should be new areas in the same planets I'd assume. As well as new bosses at the end of them at least.

Looking at the grimoire cards tonight, there seems to be, maybe I'm misreading it but tons of future plans. For Earth I think there was Russia, and then 3 or 4 blank "too be determined" location cards, each I'm assuming representing a future area on Earth. Meaning each planet could be planned to get 3-4X the current content if I'm thinking right.

This is slightly tin foil hat like, possible spoilers. This reddit thread is about how Destiny took a major change in the story department. Personally I think it holds some water, the story is just god awful, the dialogue even worse.

http://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheG...destinys_content_completely_changed_over_the/

that being said, with the first DLC above, goodness, of all that additional content, some of it I won't see on X1 LOL. We are missing strikes I believe that are PS4 exclusive for a year.

If the DLC does not add new enemies/areas, I will be sort of pissed. I'm hoping there will be new areas that open up branched off of the main maps.

That cut content.. If the files still in disc, those with rgh xbox may be able to force load it with memory editor and fiddling around with the file packs. But then the problem will be destiny need always on Internet...

Wow, the Vault of Glass is ridiculous. Me, JPT/Eyes and 4-5 others (JPT had to leave) played it. Made it to the final boss and everyone decided to save and call it a night. We're gonna resume tomorrow but I watched a video of the final boss and I'm not sure I'm up for it.... looks like it's gonna take another few hours just to beat it.

... did the Queens Wrath kill order that I'd been putting off for a while it actually was pretty dang easy after a few early deaths. And I got exactly what I was searching for, the Queens vest. ...

There are 6 (?) queen's wrath missions as far as I know. I've played 4 so far, and got 4 identical vests. The queen's bounties seem completely pointless too - completing 6 will give you ~500 points, while level 2 requires something like 3000 points. For your effort level 2 rewards you with the option to purchase pink coloured rare guns. :/
What's mad is that some of the bounties require you have gear and a shader active, which require level 3 to buy. The whole thing just feels rushed.

The game really doesn't have the reward cycle sorted out. It seems you hit a certain level (I'm at 25) and suddenly the only real option is grinding for materials or vanguard rep, etc. Crucible is especially poor for rewards.

And I'm inclined to believe that reddit post about the hasty plot rewrite. There are subtle references in the game to the
traveler being evil - such as xur saying 'your traveler hides a dark secret'
. The whole grimoire situation (mess), and then you get blatantly stupid mistakes like
at the start of the black garden mission, Dinkle says 'this location is in no known space or time'. Ignoring the nonsense of how he could possible know that fact (seriously, how the ****), 5 seconds later the game pops up some text at the bottom of the screen saying ‘Mars - Meridian Bay’ ....

Fundamentally, the game is very solid, technically brilliant. But it's a real ‘less than the sum of its parts’ thing for me. I'm still playing it. The combat is excellent, but the lack of variety in encounter design - and especially the lack of enemy behavior variety is wearing me down. They game gives you the ‘close call’ rush when you survive a horde, but it's somewhat mathematical in nature. There aren't any ‘holy ****’ moments, basically no scripted sequences at all or things that you'd want to share (compared to, say, BF4), lack of emergent game play etc.

The only 2 pics I've taken

As a completely random aside, I really love the way the sparrow handles. Give it a bit more speed then pod racer style mini game would be pretty awesome.

Yeah there are no 'destiny moment' so to speak, compared to lots of emergent 'battlefield moment' or crazy stuff on titanfall.

Btw crazy scripted awesome moment was available on destiny before they cut it. You can see the gameplay in old e3 destiny playthrough. It have destructible stuff too.

Btw some game features also presented on the final game but only available in 1st intro mission. The other mission just repeat the same thing again and again.

Those niceties are:
-dinklebot that tell you to wait but presented with story elemen. When the room is dark, dinklebot looks for light switch. In the meantime, the player free to do anything.

-freedom in path and strategy. Dinklebot itself say this is 'your' call. This happened when you have the option to crouch pass laser bomb, disable it, or simply blow them up. You also have the ability to lure enemy chasing you and trigger the bomb.

-the first mission is the only place where dinklebot make meaningful conversation with player. It's like Wheatley from portal. Later missions only shows that dinklebot know everything, you know nothing, and no conversation or explanation happens. The black garden that everybody knows, the vex that legend is well known, etc.

Tldr
The first mission is out of place. It feels like other game. It is also the mission that did not changed much from early e3 reveal.

Programmers from xentax seems get good progress in unpacking destiny files. http://forum.xentax.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=11977

When the succeed, hopefully there will be full of cut content. So we can put something out of it.

Reconstructed the story from disabled voice dialogue files, text, etc. Disabled areas etc.

Usually game this big, developed for long time, with this changes close to release, will have its cut content disabled on disc. Maybe out of fear deleting them will break something.
