I think the LCD monitors have a list of resolutions (scanning frequencies) presets, when the frequencies are withn tolerance with a preset, the mode is assumed.

Like my Philips 170W4P, it recognise 720/60p as 1280x720 and display it natively on the 1280x768 panel (with top and bottom black borders).

I think the capability of recognising modes depends on the length of the list of presets.

It has black bars? I see. I wonder if the one I want does too?

I might have to buy it from Best Buy, test it out to see how well it works, and then return it for a refund. Then I'll get it from an online retailer instead, saving several hundred bucks :devilish:

Yes, it has black bars at top and bottom and display the native 1280x720 image at the center, leaving 48 pixel rows unused.

It will also show 1280x720 on the information screen, this page has 2 images that contains the mode info.

720p mode info with X-BOX

Looking at the pics, it's not that big a deal I guess. The black borders are hardly noticeable.

hehe, you guys are going to hate me for posting a 1600x1200 res pic of my desktop, but anyway, here's mine:

It's fairly jpeged... I might post some screens of the desktops running on my Fileserver and the PS2 Linux kit a bit later...

Again, leave it up to the Euros to have kickass taste in music :p

This time though I can say "neener - I saw FLA live and met Bill Leeb on the implode tour!" :)

hehe, I thought you might notice the FLA stuff *snicker* after reading your comments about Front242 and the likes... :D

I'm not sure anymore if you understood the German question I asked in the other thread, but where are you from? Zurich? 8)

BTW; never had the priviledge of going to a life act of FLA unfortunately.. :( The Implode album is probably my favorite from them.. Got to love track 4 (synthetic forms)...

Nah I understood it fine and I typed up a nice reply with UMLAUTS (grrr) any everything, but I guess the board ate it or I closed the window by accident :( :( :(

Ok lets try this again;

Ich komme aus Toronto, aber ich habe in der Schweiz für einen Sommer gewohnt. Nach, ich studiere Deutsches an der Universität für zwei Jahre.

Ok I'm gonna leave out the rest cause the umlauts are pissing me off :p ('scuse the typos, I'm rusty)My family's got a student from Zurich coming to live with us in a few week... hopefully he'll be able to understand me, but I KNOW I won't be able to understand him heh, switzerdeutch ist Schwul :p

Ya, FLA is great, and Bill Leeb is such an asshole :p But I'd take Project Pitchfork live over FLA anyday :) Lucky for me for though, Covenant/Melotron on May 14th! Yay!

edit: i'm retarded, I replied in the other thread but saw this message and.. well, i'm easily confused! I nuked the other, I think i borked up the past tense anyway :(

Ah that's cool, I'm from Zurich myself... I heard lots of things about Bill Leep, also about an incident at one of the concerts where he just didn't show up and got the crowd pissed because no one informed them that they replaced him because he was ill (was that Bill Leep?). Anyway, I must admit, I only knew a few of FLA sideprojects, including Front242, Delerium and others.

BTW:

switzerdeutch ist Schwul :p

Du meinsch, schwiitzerdüütsch isch schwuul?! So viel zum "chuchi-chäschtli" dialäkt... häsch übrigens mal "züri-gschnätzlets" g'esse ih de schwiitz? :D

(BTW; if you can't read it, don't worry - I used the most disgusting & extreme swiss dialect... hehe 8))

Leeb, not Leep ;) Ya, at one of the concerts he just didn't show up.. they used a double or something? Since he hit the jackpot with Delerium, he really doesn't care much for the industrial/electro scene anymore (and who could blame him? The last Delerium album sold more than all the FLA cds put together). My buddies step dads cousin was dating the drummer for the live FLA band, so we got in on the guest list and everything :)

When I was in Switzerland I lived mostly in Leysin (little french town an hour or so from Bern), but spent most of my time in Zurich and Bern. I went there to study French, but I ended up hating it and falling in love with German

Oh man, that just sent shivers up my spine reading that lol, brings back memories ;) Everytime I'd go to a bar, I'd get my Tuborg ok, have a seat, and (try) to watch what was on TV.. and some hottie would come up and be like "grüüüzeiih!".. and I'd just stare at them and say "Englisch? Bitte?? Verstehen mich?", and they'd stare back, walk away, and I'd grumble "du bist nett!" :( Despite my social shortcommings in your country :) I'd pack up my bags and relocate in a heart beat.. Switzerlands a beautiful, progressive country and I'd kill to live there.

Which reminds me, whats with your english? Honestly, with my 5 months in switzerland I only met a handful of people (french and german) who could speak english well.. BBC fan? :)

Oopsy, Leeb of course.. damn typos! ;) I must admit, I love Delerium, although it is quite different to the FLA stuff. I got into FLA by coincidence actually. Went shopping one day and spotted the ‘implode’ album due to its extraordinary cover (best ever). Needless to say, this kind of music got me into the electronic/progressive scene and later GOA and psychedelic stuff. I also used to listen to Trance, but thanks to the success of the Streetparade which is now the biggest streetparade in the world, the stuff turned so commercialized, it’s not even funny.

Good choice with German though. I never got the hang of French and managed to survive my time at highschool/college with pathetic low grades. German, I can imagine, must be a bitch to learn… even as natives, it’s the hardest subject due to its complicated grammar. :(

Haha!!! That was hilarious to read. I can really picture it. I’m actually Australian, but was born in Switzerland and spent pretty much my entire life over here. I lived for a short time in Australia though, also enjoying many family visits throughout the years. Switzerland is beautiful, but there are many things that I dislike, starting with the weather which leaves much to be desired. This also reflects on the people sadly, as Zurich especially is known for having quite a cold and unfriendly mentality. Once I finish studying, I’ll probably relocate to England or even America. At the moment, I work within the IT-Finance industry but it really bores me. I hope to find a place within the game industry and Switzerland really doesn’t offer that kind of thing.

Dave Mckane or something? Toronto based artist.. he does alot of work for industrial bands. He did the last 3-4 FLA albums, Chakra Red (Pitchfork), the Download covers, and the Skinny Puppy BRAP compilation (off the top of my head).

The weather in Switzerland is great :D I'd wake up in the morning, go have a smoke on the steps of the chalet and say to a friend, "boy it sure is foggy", and they'd say "Ryan, thats not fog, we're in a cloud"

German grammar is a bitch, but the vocab is so similar to English its not even funny. English is like 40% german, 40% french, and 20% celtic, etc. Its hard, but not impossible. Since I left UWaterloo, my German studies are sort of non-existant, most schools in Toronto don't offer it :( I considered taking part time courses at the Goethe Institute, but its expensive.. As I somehow feel I may end up in Europe at some point in my life, I'd like to get a good handle on the language. Im hoping to save up some cash and relocate to Berlin for a few months.. I love Switzerland, but I'm not going to learn German there :D I'm pretty much fluent in French, but was never a fan of its pronounciation (or lackthereof). I like to speak whats written :)

There's a games industry going in Eastern Europe, what with Croteam, the STALKER and Mafia guys, etc. Not exactly prime time wages and such, but its next door and a start :)
