CYBERPUNK 2077 [XO, XBSX|S, PC, PS4, PS5]

They had about 8 years though. Does the game seem like 8 years of work? Management problems perhaps? Feature creep seems likely to have been an issue with that sort of timeframe.

Where they really working on it for 8 years?
Witcher 3 came in 2015, Cyberpunk was announced and then put on the back burner, until Witcher 3 was released. Or am i remembering this wrong?

There is no denying the PC version looks good with proper hardware and runs decent from most reports. I think the main issue was CDPR purposely hiding console code, performance and review keys from the gaming media on trying to meet a silly Metacritic score. This type of behavior is definitely scummy and CDPR management only have themselves to blame.

Cyberpunk 2077: To ensure that every player can get the experience they expect on Xbox, we will be expanding our existing refund policy to offer full refunds to anyone who purchased Cyberpunk 2077 digitally from the Microsoft Store, until further notice. https://msft.it/6010pXEHj

While we know the developers at CD PROJEKT RED have worked hard to ship Cyberpunk 2077 in extremely challenging circumstances, we also realize that some players have been unhappy with the current experience on older consoles.

To date, we have granted refunds to the vast majority of customers who have requested one. To request an Xbox refund for Cyberpunk 2077, please follow the steps listed on our Xbox refund page here: https://msft.it/6010pXEHj

Stays console exclusive.

DayZ was ‘exclusive’ to Xbox for a long time because Sony did not allow that kind of quality in the store. However, millions of people still enjoyed it.

it is strong to delist the game as millions or people would still buy it and Sony gets a big percentage.

I feel for the developers btw. They probably cannot have their holiday

wow, I never got to finish the Delamain quest but now I'm GLaD that I did.
There is no cake :D

General post - not a reply to Jayco now:

As for the politics Sony's pulling the game, there was no other option assuming Sony didn't want to make an exception for one game in regards of full refunds to anyone, no matter how many hours they played as CDPR wanted and announced. Now this is possible as the game is officially broken on PS. Gamers wanting to take advantage of finishing this game and getting refund are happy, no new gamers are allowed to buy game and pull the same trick (makes financial sense) and will have to wait for a stable release in the future.

Microsoft was and is more generous with refund policy and they are happy to keep selling and refunding this game, but they are probably going to check game progress and judge case by case, but I don't know how this will work.

As for crunch, there is more than one side to this and while some people are not able or willing to put more hours, others are very happy to do if it's paid extra. I have utmost respect to all the artists, musicians, sound effect specialists, programmers, actors and supporting staff working on any ambitious project. Management is a crucial part of it as well, but they have to take decisions which often are verified by time and in a lot of cases can be incorrect, that's how humans learn.

I know quite a few people working at CDPR, Techland, EA and more. Was part of a game dev. project in my youth, actively participated in Demo Scene (hence connections to these people) and know how lofty dreams can be quickly revised by reality and how much time takes bringing good ideas to 90% completion to then just find out that the last 10% will need double the effort.

Anyway, I'm going back to Night City, there are hundreds of things to do there which I haven't done yet ... secrets to uncover, glitches to experience and the STORY!

If CDPR had just said how hard it was to bring their vision to XBO/PS4, talked about their brilliant technical efforts and shown what to expect instead of running the common secretive PR hype wagon, they could have avoided this. Hell that likely would have been more than just remedial, but increased the excitement for the new experience. ;)

Best Buy has joined the list of retailers offering returns for copies of Cyberpunk 2077, with the company announcing (in a forum post) that it’ll be accepting returns through December 21st.

The move is an unusual one for Best Buy, which typically excludes opened video games from its usual return policy — in most circumstances, “opened physical copies of computer software, movies, music, video games, books, video game guides and sheet music can only be exchanged for an identical item.”

Problem gotten so bad, it made frontpage news on Yahoo, BBC, The Guardian, and national broadcast news. CDPR management needs a shakeup...

Must be a first. Me playing a game happily on my PC while the console version is the craptastic port. I mean the PC version needs some polish too still. Great game, should have let it shine on PS5 in 6 months.

I doubt investors would have been happy not releasing on previous gen consoles, even through 2021.

At this point it feels like I'm dogpiling... but f-it! I didn't create the problem, just reporting the stories out there.

What gamers didn't know is that, behind the scenes, CD PROJEKT RED appears to have been deliberately attempting to misrepresent its product.

The incentive was there. Up until last Friday, the developers believed that their bonuses were contingent upon hitting 90 or higher on Metacritic, according to a report from Bloomberg. As a result, the individual developers and publishers had ample incentive to distribute review codes in a way that maximized their aggregate scores and secured their bonuses.

In this case, they issued PC review copies to publications with high-end PCs and required that they not show any of their own gameplay recordings. They allowed no one to discuss or review the game on the Xbox One or PlayStation 4 consoles.

They did this knowing that their game had severe performance issues on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, which were its target launch consoles given they published its debut trailer in 2013 and the game's initial April 2020 launch date. They did this knowing that the visual bugs that you would see in a video were jarring enough to make many question their preorder. They knew that, if the console version were to be reviewed, it would receive negative reviews due to its performance issues and hurt the game's launch day sales.

They did it knowing that many publications generally can't re-review games. It's not part of their business model. The second review creates confusion with their audience in addition to dampening SEO and Google keyword rankings. Second reviews won't rank high on news aggregators, such as Google News or Apple News, because it's a topic that's been covered by them before. Second reviews also typically come after a game's launch, when many consumers have already decided whether or not to buy a game, and thus don't attract the same readership. Finally, Metacritic generally does not accept edited or updated review scores.
