Core2Quad vs i7 & i5

Why is it that the C2Q are more expensive than the core i7 and i5?

They're even priced ahead of the 'enthusiast' socket 1366 i7, let alone the upcoming 1160 i5s and i7s.

What am I missing here? It seems the only benefit is that the C2Q can still utilize DD2, but I would think that benefit would be completely wiped out by the 1366 i7's triple channel memory controller.

Is it just that motherboards and DDR2 are so much cheaper for the LGA775s that they can keep their CPU cost so inflated?

You mean the C2Q's? As in they are old and still stuck at their original prices even though the newer chips are out?

Nope, they've actually increased in price lately at places like Newegg after an initial reduction when the Core i7s came out.

I don't get it unless they're trying to rape people who really want to stay with the 775. But typically, Newegg doesn't do that. They usually discount to move old stock, they don't hang on to it with huge mark-ups.
