can you get 5.1 passthru from the xbox one controller?

I remember reading here and in a wired article that the xbox one controller will be able to pass 5.1 to a headset via its proprietary port. Is this known to be true and or do we have any concrete info on this? I know the 3.5 mm port on the ps4 supports audio passthru as stereo. Thanks for any info paging my man bkilllian and everyone elses .02 on this very subject as id love to buy a 5.1 headset for my xbox one. Thanks.

P.s I know I can get an astro a50 etc that will give me 5.1 once msft releases its dolby digital patch. But id like to buy a 5.1 headset plug into my controller and be done with it so im hoping this will be the case

A dismantling of the proprietary Xbox One controller headset connector reveals 4 wires, labelled GND (Ground), MIC (Microphone), HPR (Headphone Right) and HPL (Headphone Left).

So no, you will only ever be able to get stereo sound out of it. No true 5.1 sound.

That's only the connection between the headset's logic board and the headset itself. The proprietary connector on the controller has 12 pins by my count, far more than needed for simple stereo and mic.
