Hi there

Anyone with Carlton ITV1 watch 'Breaking the Silence - A Special Report by John Pilger' tonight?

I thought it was fascinated and was most impressed by one interviewee calling John a communist. ;)

Well it is odd to me that since the Hutton Enquiry the BBC news is taking a step back from these kind of issues even when reporting the news and the Hutton Enquiry which it is heavily embroilled in. I would say the reporting is cautious at best.

ITV1 on the otherhand, its news coverage and especially after this program seems to have taken over where the BBC left off.

I must say I only saw the second half of the program. I agreed with many issues John Pilger raised - however not all.

I suppose we are left in a democracy where lies are all the rage and we think little of the effects our actions can lead to until they bite us in the ass (again). All we can do is watch these programs and discuss it as if we live in some morally superior environment where freedom of speech and all that is cool.. even if it includes lies, damn lies and more lies.

The response coming from the interviewee was typical with what I meet when trying to discuss the issues on the War on Terror... it is an 'your with us or against us.'

Well I am against all forms of terror, state or vigilante - Al Qaeda is vigilante terror IMO and state terror is, well we all know what the 'S' stands for in the US of A abbrevation.

I am doing my bit, to try and foster and engender understanding - you do yours too, apparently you are running the show. (You = the developed world).

Is that better flamebait?

You'd think adults would be much more mature than that.

didnt see this,, it's a shame 'world in action' isnt on any more coz that used to do some good well researched documentaries.. On the other hand there were some fantastic bbc2 stuff recently... holidays in the evil empire was one.. then after the war there was a fantasic look at reporting the recent conflict,, from following al-jazeera to following geoff hoon(!).. In fact just recently i watched a programme about the cameramen which included some appaling scenes of when john simpson got bombed by the americans.....( http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/spl/hi/middle_east/03/story_of_the_war/html/20.stm ) and also some incredible stuff when this 'embedded' journo gets asked to 'do a piece to camera' whilst the unit he is with was in a pretty heavy firefight...
