Nite_Hawk said:Heya, I actually like to play lots of old games so it's no big deal if it doesn't look as good. The first game we bought for the gamecube was sonic mega collection, which is a bunch of old sonic games for the genesis on one disc.
Yeah, but the fanboism is the same shade and intensity--there are just more flavors!digitalwanderer said:ATi/nVidia I know a bit about though, consoles I'm pretty clueless.

Well, channel one into the other. Start off liking the ones that use ATi cards first, and move out from there.digitalwanderer said:Ah, but there in lies the rub....I'll play the game if'n I know the rules, but I hate playing when I don't know what is going on.
Really? On the Genesis?IST said:Sonic 1 came out in 89.
IST said:LOL In case you're curious there were Sega Master System and GameGear Sonics as well. The GameGear ones were good, haven't played the SMS ones so I dunno.
Nite_Hawk said:the SMS and gamegear were really similar weren't they? Wasn't the gamegear essentially mini-SMS?

I must admit that I did have meself a private little chuckle when my son opened up his Gamecube and I saw the little familar red and white "ATi" sticker on the front of it.Pepto-Bismol said:cthellis42 said:Start off liking the ones that use ATi cards first, and move out from there.
Well, Digi must be on the right track!!
"Everything in the system is connected to the chip we designed. The CPU talks to nothing else other than Flipper; the main memory talks to nothing else other than Flipper; the controllers talk only to Flipper; the disc drive talks directly to Flipper ... If you take away main memory and the CPU, everything else is in that chip. All of the I/O functions, the memory controller, the video processing, and the audio ..." – Greg Buchner, vice president of engineering at ATI

I think I'll start jumping into consoles next generation, HDTVs should be prevelant by then. (Well, if not prevalent then at least cheap enough for me to afford one. )
Besides, next generation consoles and PC gaming I think are gonna come damned close to converging next round....if not they're going to be so close in gaming quality that it should be a moot point. (They may even be a little better at first, that's another good reason I might be trying 'em then. )

ah thanks!
Btw, have any of you guys bought the component cables for the gamecube? If so, how do the compare to the s-video one? We've got a 4:3 hdtv, so I could do 480p on it.
Thanks!

NV-NDA said:Hey Pepto, for me it isn't all about the graphics. I only really notice how great, or how bad they are for the first five minutes of playing. Gameplay, Control, and Story are much more important, at least to me.
I guess that's why Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake (MSX) has been my favorite game for the past five years.
