Bittersweet day for me as a boxing junkie...

First, "Big Daddy" Riddick Bowe makes his comeback debut against a nobody and is as likeable as ever, it seems. He plans on fighting every 3 weeks until he works himself into contention. Just unherd of, if he really pulls a string of bouts every 3 weeks off... Looks like he's got about 40 or 50 lbs to lose though.

I've been a huge Bowe fan since his Olympic bouts with Lennox Lewis. Loved watching him work up and fight for the belts, the classic 3-fight war with Holyfield, and just the general "like-a-bility" that the guy had. Truly a "people's champ". Now, we'll see what he's got left. If nothing else, he's full of entertainment.

The bad: Roy Jones, Jr. Another guy that I love, but tends to polarize boxing fans. The most impressive athlete to ever lace up a pair of gloves, and has totally outclassed everyone he's faced in EVERY WEIGHT CLASS FROM middleweight to heavyweight over the past 16 years. His reflexes are so fast and motor skills so superior, he's just counterpunched his way to success in every fight...

Anyhow, last year he put on something like 35 lbs of muscle to fight as a heavyweight, and won easily. Impressive to say the least. The problem, though, was when he took that weight off: no more zip, no more strength, no more of what made Roy Jones "Roy Jones". Two fights, two losses. The Tarver loss was understandable, but this one was just embarassing.

Sad to see a guy as dominating as Jones just lose it all overnight. Hopefully, my sorrow will be minimized with the entertainment that "Big Daddy" will bring to the table.
