BGS season 3

That means the UK will have to start showing the beginning later in order to smoothly run through the whole season.

Ah OK I guess that makes sense. So although the showing here starts late it'll finish broadly in sync with the US?

The UK has a better approach to show broadcast management.

Well maybe. It also means that we get "Celebrity Love Island IV" inflicted on us for 20 weeks without reprieve.:runaway:

Usually. On occasion we've even gotten ahead of the US. I can remember a few series of Farscape, Stargate, and Battlestar Galactica where by the time we got to the last few episodes, the UK was running a week or two ahead of the US cable channels, let alone their national syndication.

Yes, the previous seasons had the UK about 5 weeks ahead of the US for SG-1 and SG-A for the majority of the second half. They ended 2 weeks ahead of the US.

There's also series that aired completely before it even started in the US, such as the new Doctor Who (Season 1 and 2) and Torchwood. Still undecided as to how Torchwood will turn out. I'll give em 10 episodes before making any decisions.

British TV seasons are too damned short!

I freaked when I watched Black Books for the first time, SIX episodes a season?!?!?

<sigh> It's quality, not quantity that counts surely? Would you want to spend your time watching six great episodes, or twelve mediocre ones?

For instance, UK shows tend not to do "filler" episodes like you see in a lot of other US series where they get a "free" episode by making one up out of flashbacks.

Well those are BBC series, and we pay for them out of our licence fees, so we should get to see them first!

Agreed. However I thought Doctor Who season 2 and Torchwood were joint effort (financially) between BBC and SciFi.

The Friday night lineup doesn't do SciFi any ratings favors. The audience they're targetting has no reason to truely tune in now. It includes a rerun of Heros in SD that originally aired on Monday in HD. Then it runs an episode of Doctor Who that has already been seen via usenet/torrents. Then they show BSG. I used to watch SciFi Friday night live; now I just catch the episode from the net the next day.

This shouldn't come as any surprise to the tv-execs, yet they seem shocked.

I'm pretty sure I'm right in saying that Sci-Fi just bought the Dr.Who/Torchwood rights/licensing, but it's been paid for by the BBC. You might be mixing it up with BSG which was financed by both Sci-Fi and Sky-BSB.

Where Sci-Fi have screwed up is they had a strong Friday night that meant people stayed in or set the VCR/PVR. It was a SF feast with three courses. Most people had something they really liked, and a couple of things they watched because it was there and quite enjoyable.

Now, they've not got enough to keep people at home instead of going out, except for the real fans. They've lost the synergy of having BSG/SG1/Atlantis audiences all being pulled into each other's programs.

Execs never seem to know what they are doing the way they commission stuff, don't keep it in a solid timeslot or promote it, and then cancel it before it's had a chance to get going. It's like a shotgun approach to TV programming where they fluke a hit more often than make one. It's seems to be particulary bad in the States.

<Thinks of Firefly, shakes fist at sky and curses TV executives in general>

what happened in BSG S2, I remember there was a robot spy in the mothership.

did they find it? after that episode I never watched the series again.

Sol has been an asshat most of the series, I feel no pity for him.

True. I dont feel pity for him, but man, talk about being on the receiving end of anything and everything that can and will go wrong. I suppose not every character can successfully rebuild their life. It's just that nothing ever goes right for him, and his actions and luck never seems to produce anything positive. Such a tragic character.

I hope Starbuck manages to straighten herself out. It looks like she's on the right path.

On the Season 2 DVD extras there's a number of deleted scenes involving Sol and Adama - most interesting is their first meeting. It really opened up Saul's character for me a little more... not that he's overly likeable, but he's really got a spirit for what he believes in, and certainly fights for it.

Not unlike the cylons I guess. I think any writing that makes you feel empathy for the characters you don't like it really something. Anyway, BSG is still the best show in TV IMO.

I totally lost interest in BSG in the second season. Don't know why, things just got so complicated and nothing was happening and i stopped watching it! I used to LOVE it, the acting was far beyond all other TV shows out there.

Can someone give me a bit of a summary of what happened between the middle of S2 and start of S3? :D i think i got to the point where they rape (or try to?) the gorgeous blond cylon girl...

Anyone? PM would be better maybe, so as to avoid spoilers...

Saul is probably my favorite character, up there with Adama and Starbuck.

All three of them have changed this season.

Why doesn't UniversalHD show current shows? They're a half season behind!

And it looks soo much better in HD.
