Battlefield 3 announced

Haha. One thing I'd love to see in the retail is drivable civilian vehicles. On maps like Caspian it's a bit boring having to run kilometers when all the noobmates drive solo.

I'm sure I wasn't alone in running to the big trucks and cars and being a bit dissapointed at the lack of interaction.

I spent my last couple of days on Caspian outside of vehicles.. at the start of a round, don't spawn but wait nicely until a point is captured. Spawn there and you can reach all other points by foot since they're in shooting distance.

Yep. I had weird load times on Caspian. Running the game off a SSD and a fast machine but often I'd be quite late to the party.

Same, re: the SSD and load times. I'd often hear the sounds, but would be a black screen for a good 10 seconds before spawning. Usually all the vehicles had been taken by that point.

Mine's a Vertex 2 120GB (original :p) but yeah, as soon as I see the deploy screen the vehicles are gone, if I'm lucky there's a jeep left. that's how I figured I just play Caspian on foot and it is more enjoyable for me than with vehicles...

I'm pining for this damn game. All my other games just aren't satisfying that itch. Fuckety fuck. Now every time I think about the release the thought is "What if they don't deliver my game for a week?" I'm almost tempted to buy it for top dollar on Origin and cancel the pre-order that was supercheap.

I played some BC2 last night (and tonight again) and it feels so cartoony. .easy to spot peeps.. no Mirror's Edge jumping... but amazing running speed..

Well, to somewhat satisfy my dark urges I'm scouring the web for BF3 info. Here's another brief DICE interview.

Points of interest:
  • At peak the beta had 6 million players - DICE are very confident about their framework supporting huge amounts of players.
  • Tightening up hit detection for retail. I hope they can fix the annoyance of being shot a moment after getting into cover, but I'll still love the game if they can't.

hMM. who could this be?

@zh1nt0 Can I please get a RT for theoldergamers.com ? We're a great community for anyone 25 or older. We're still buzzing from #bf3beta

BF2: Special Forces had this already. It was kind of funny to play against the Insurgents, which were basically just a rag-tag group of terrorists. Good times.

A friend of mine showed me this video, unbeknownst to him....

Look who he kills at 1:30.

It's me

I did this all the time with a buddy of mine on BFBC2. Except we'd use UAV's and load them up with 6+ packs of C4. Fly them into enemy bases and blow up objectives, people, vehicles etc.

It had the distinct advantage of being immune to friendly explosives, so the plan was reusable. In addition it put neither myself or him at any serious risk.

Minimum investment, maximum returns. We'd win entire matches (just the two of us) doing this.

I posted a link to this Joystiq article in the console thread as the reviewer was playing the (almost) final build on one of them, rather than PC. I'm hoping that the significant lowering of bullet damage only applies on those platforms. Worth a read. I guess Hardcore mode might be worthwhile this time around if they don't nerf the HUD and spotting too much.

Yes, they have. I was corrected in the other thread. Guess I'm not as on top of the news as I was at the moment! I'm relieved he was wrong.

NVIDIA CEO & Battlefield 3 Lead Developer To Kick-off GeForce LAN 6

The sixth GeForce LAN kicks off October 14th on the USS Hornet aircraft carrier in Alameda, California, and if forty-eight hours of non-stop PC gaming, contests, panels, tournaments, and prize giveaways weren’t enough, two special guests will now be making an appearance at the event.

The first is NVIDIA’s own CEO and President, Jen-Hsun Huang, responsible for leading the company and making strategic choices that impact the PC gaming landscape for years to come. Jen-Hsun, who will open the event at 6pm PST on the 14th, will be joined at GeForce LAN 6 by Johan Andersson, DICE’s Visual Architect, who will be giving a special presentation about the making of Battlefield 3. Including brand new, exclusive info, you don’t want to miss Andersson’s presentation if you’re a fan of the first-person shooter.

In addition, there’ll be a 64-player Battlefield 3 multiplayer setup, featuring three brand new maps

Have a look through his twitter feed, here's one example:

Q. still really sorry to bother you, but i'm liking the bullet damage in beta it's not been changed apart from the 1hit kill bug yes?

A. Correct, a bug has been fixed and some weapons have been balanced, but the core is intact.

and another:

The XM8 with Magnum is the basis for damage in BF3, then tweaked to fit the larger maps and more open spaces of BF3.
