that`s good to know, but how do i enable DXVA?
It should be enabled automatically just by having the correct drivers and directx version installed. You ARE running winxp, right? If so, it should turn itself on if all is working correctly. :( You may need one of those dreaded windows re-installs to get it working correctly if you have all the right softwares installed (check DXDIAG to see if there's any errors with DX!).

Unfortunately, there isn't - AFAIK - any "on-switch" for DXVA in case it isn't enabled, it's one of those things that just should work by itself as if by magic, and tend to cause headaches if it doesn't. :(

i checked DXDIAG - no errors found :devilish: :devilish:
i installed ffdshow, it runs much better now(only with PowerDVD for some reason), but with crappy quality - alot of ugly blocks. :?

PowerDVD 5 has reported DVXA not in use since the day I installed it. My system specs are lower than yours (XP@2.2GHz, 9700P) and I can play 1080P without problems. CPU usage is ~75%.

Is it just BoB that you've tried so far? How about the HD clips from MS' WMV HD showcase?

You could give VLC Player a whirl:

It has a comparatively low CPU overhead so might sort you out if you just want a quick fix.

P4 2.4 GHZ with a radeon 9700 Pro.

Power DVD 6 is the answer.

I can run 1080i TS files at 20-30% cpu useage.

I just open up PowerDVD 6 and (with nothing playing) and right-click on the video window.

I then choose the video tab and then choose hardware acceleration. Close Power DVD 6. Done.

For ATI users better framerates are achieved using Overlay.

With WinDVD you need to regedit a little bit.

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\InterVideo\DVD6]
"HDFastMode"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\InterVideo\DVD6]
"HDFastMode"=dword:00000000

The above is needed otherwise WinDVD will discard alternating fields.

Ah, to open a high definition TS file using WinDVD you either have to rename the file using a (IIRC, it's not the way I do it) TP/mpeg extension or navigate to it through its playlist.

You'll need to type in *.* (show all) in order to see TS type files in the directory you browse too. Double click the file you browsed too and it should be added to your playlist.

It's been awhile as I use either PowerDVD 6 or the ZoomPlayer frontend with PowerDVD 6.

It's within ZoomPlayer that I set overlay mixer as the default method when rendering.

Further customization includes using Nero's File Source/Splitter.

Usually has better seeking.

Took me a long time working this out and I had a lot of help on a lot of message boards.
