ATi under the gun?

But i agree with you, some people are a little bit to happy when one if the IHV's get some crap thrown at them. .

Sony vs MS: Do not enter without an asbestos suit.
Intel vs AMD: It can be deadly to enter, but you'll probably be fine. But be very careful.
ATI vs NVIDIA: Pretty harmless these days. Fall of 2002 was nasty though, but now it's PG13.

I don't envy the guys moderating the console forum.

Let's face it, noone wants ATI or Nvidia to go bankrupt. I for one don't. All of us who visit these forums would have so little to talk about (or fight about =] ).

We love to look at the engineering and operations aspects of GPU makers, but we often forget or choose to ignore the business side which can be the uglier of the three.

I don't know if Nvidia was in trouble for the same reasons as ATI was and currently is. I do remember that Nvidia pretty much received a slap on the wrist and issued a statement that their accounting practices would be done with a fine tooth comb. ATI on the other hand has been sued by shareholders and punished by the SEC which in my mind tells me that ATI's actions were a bit more severe than Nvidia's.

I personally think that this suit is in fact frivolous. My guess is that they will lose because ATI is having yield issues which can not be forecasted accurately and this should be taken into account when deciding by a judge if this legal action is justifiable.

I thought the real fuel behind the suits was that top level execs were dumping stock just before they lowered forecasts?

Shareholder suits have nothing at all to do with SEC rules and regulations, so best not to confuse the two. Behind every shareholder suit of this kind is a pack of greedy lawyers hoping to earn some extra income for themselves. Most suits of this kind are thrown out, with the only winners being lawyers paid on both sides of the suit.

IE, it's news when the SEC says that something done in a company is wrong; but hardly news at all when disguntled stock holders fueled by a pack of greedy lawyers *asserts* that something done in a company is wrong. Big difference.

Large companies get sued often--just look at Microsoft--or IBM, etc. Everybody wants to put his finger in the pie somehow, some way.

I read somewhere that Walmart receives some crazy number of lawsuits each day. Something like 20+ per day. Alot of people "slipping" down the shampoo aisles.
