Woah did you overclock your C64!?

Exactly what i was going to say. I think seconds per frame is more appropriate.

But still got me started in aviation so can't complain.

Heh, if all of today's pilots started on that, i understand why there are so many plane crashes... i mean that thing gave you at least 10 seconds between each frame to think about what to do.... :devilish:

Ok, which Flight Simulator are you guys talking about? MS FlightSimulator I remember most definately ran at a frame(or two) per second on C64.
Now The-Jet - THAT was definately in 5-10seconds per frame.

Hazy memory, i was VERY young.

I probably used to think that any "thing where you pilot a plane" was Flight Simulator, so now everything is Flight Simulator.

Ha! I think you were mostly thinking of tit at that time
Had no idea of planes or pilots.... though I wouldn't be so sure about the pilots... and stuerts.......

Hey i was 8! U perv :devilish:

Maybe my fond memories are inaccurate, but I don't remember C64 FS being seconds per frame. I remember it being mega jerky, like 1-3 FS dependng on what was on the screen (like an amazing BRIDGE that you'd always try to fly around)

Or, there was the mode where you had a machine gun.

Another game I fondly remember was Epyx's Jet which played "off we go, into the wild blue yonder" music on startup.

As well, my favorite C64 non-sim flight game, A.C.E.!

3) And Hannibal takes a dig at J. Allard's lack of knowledge as far as computer architectures go

J. Allard was one of the primary authors of Winsock... I think that means he might know a thing or two about computer architectures. Just cause somebody is in PR mode trying to get stuff across the public, doesn't mean they don't know the details.

The problem is that people try and disect every little PR post as gospel truth, whereas is usually just meant as an impression. Same thing for all the PR about PS3.
ooo cool, I was not aware of that fact .. thanx for the info :)

Yes your memories are innacurate.

Hey sunshine, I have ex students of mine flying for Qantas, Cathay, Malaysian and Singapore airlines. If you remember the film Rain Man you know that qantas is the safest airline in the world. If you don't remember that then I am too old :)

Scarier still is that I worked in military simulation for quite a few years and so there are probably Australian trained airforce pilots operating in your area. look up!!!!!!

*ducks under the desk*

Was that flight sim game the one where you had to deliver mail from place to place?

My first c64 flight sim was F15 Strike Eagle. Now those were some high speed dogfights...

No that was called airplane. Came out just after FSIM2 on c64. You must be soooo old ;)

And what are you doing up so late? I'm at work, whats your excuse?

Airplane, that was it! I work from home, so the time I waste on forums is my own, no matter how much I try an convince myself it is research :)

You said you taught pilots MrFloopy, were you ever an instructor at Parafield?

Yes, at Bruce Hartwig Flying School. you've probably seen the sign if you've gone past there along Main North road. After that I worked at Augusta Airway's flying school division at Adelaide airport.

Sorry everyone if this is getting off topic, but if you know Adeaide then you would realise this is a big deal. Ok Wavey, your going to have to come to Adelaide now to meet the South Aussie chapter of beyond3d. Besides, it's about time you and Neva returned the favour and used my sofa ;)

I had F-15 strike eagle on my Tandy 1000 EX (my first kind of real computer - my Trash 80 doesn't count). That game was a fun, but also a pain...

Shoot the triangle! :D

That sounded like a challenge - *loads up C64 emulator*
Ok we were ALL wrong. :p
It runs somewhere around 1-1.5seconds per frame. (but gauges update faster then the graphics, so for sim-lover it was perfectly playable).
Still it's amazing how memory distorts things, I could have sworn it was faster then that...
Next thing I'll find out is that FS2.0 on Amiga didn't run at 50fps either... :(
At least graphics look like what I remember them though.

Now THAT really ran at several seconds per frame, I remember doing a Top-Gun shot, taking off the carrier, switch to rear view and turn the plane hard - got a good two frames out of it before the game froze(it froze up a lot too for some reason).
Funniest thing though - I thought of it as some great sim on C64... then I played Amiga version a few years later, and seeing it in nice framerate I also found that flight model was just plain bad.

As well, my favorite C64 non-sim flight game, A.C.E.!
I remember playing that on Spectrum, also a nice game. :) Ah now you got me all into 8bit mode - I remember playing a fair bit of F15 too... and DeltaWing was another interesting combat sim, probably the first flight game "simulating" force effects on the pilot (even visually, you could see the legs moving  ).
