apps with 16 and 32 bit install pieces

Should they work on xp32?

I have one that I can't get to work on my vista 64 install.

Anyway, it has an app compatibility fix in ACT 5.0, but it doesn't make it work in vista 64. But is that good evidence that it might work in xp32? I don't know why they'd have an app compatibility fix in the ACT if it didn't at least work with xp, but I wanted to double check before I install xp32.

BRiT: Love those links man.

2008 IQ: XP64/Vista64 can't run any 16 bit code so that's why the app compat doesn't work.

I've read that xp32 will only work with some apps with 16/32 bit mixed code, but if there's an app fix for it in the ACT 5.0, then is my game going to work in XP32?

The game I'm itching to play is Shadow Man; the demo works fine in Vista 64, but I can't get the full version to start in vista 64. The ACT has one fix for it and it's called GameUX (IIRC), but that doesn't make the game run. What the hell is GameUX?

It shows up in the processes list for some reason unknown to me.

Does anyone have any further suggestions? I have XP 32, but I don't want to install it unless someone knows if Shadow Man will work with it.

Is the game graphic intensive? If not, try running it in a Virtual PC session. Even if it is, try setting up a Virtual PC Win32 image to see if the game will at least install under that OS.

Virtual PC is free (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...02-3199-48a3-afa2-2dc0b40a73b6&displaylang=en). I don't think it supports 3D hardware acceleration, but it can at least let you see if the game will install since it seems like the issue is in installing.

Though I've seen some posts indicating the game works in Vista 64, but didn't see how they got it to work.
Thanks=] I installed virtual pc and it was a bit too much hassle; anyway, the game actually completes install it just doesn't start up.

If there's further suggestions let me know=] If not, then I'm going to have to finish prince of persia and back up all of my important date, delete vista 64 then install xp32, and see if that jank will work first hand. If it doesn't, then I'm going to be angry, but not at anyone here.

I believe the problem might not lie in vista 64, b/c the demo works fine for me; so I asked someone on another forum about it and it works with vista 64 for them. They said i'd need a no cd crack, which I downloaded, but after extracting it, I don't know what the hell to do with it. Can someone help me with that?

The no cd crack will likely solve the problem since the demo works, right?

Are any optiarc sata dvd-rw drives known to give problems with some game discs? I also once had trouble with matrix path of neo, but eventually got it to work. It sucks ass that aa doesn't work with it though.

no-cd cracks usually are usually files which are meant to replace originals, .exe's or .dll's, so just copy them and overwrite the originals (remember to make backups first)

many older games work fine without installing too, maybe it's too old for comparisons sake, but for example Master of Orion 2 can't be installed on Vista x64 due 16bit components in the installer; however if you just copy the files from the CD to a folder and run the "win95" executable, the game works flawlessly

I think VMware support D3D accelaration, VMPlayer is free and some kind of pre-installed virtual machines were available for download .
After all VMPlayer can't create new virtual machines - but a "vm" is defined by a 3kb text file, so...
