Any word on Nintendo + HD?

I think this might make it or break it for Nintendo in the next round.

If M$ and $ony are both gonna have HD everywhere, I sure hope Nintendo won't stay SD.

So... Any word on this?

Nintendo hasn't said anything about their hardware save that it seems to be weak and pathetic compared to the competition. HD is too early to say, but if the early info that says Rev to be 2-4x GC in power are true, I'd say it's UNLIKELY it would be able to sustain HD resolutions in action games.

Nintendo gives realistic numbers.

They have not said if it would support HD nor have they said it would not support HD.

It will have a monitor/VGA port to hook to a computer monitor. That right there makes me believe that there would be at least 720p.

Pretty much all monitors can run at 1280x1024, alot can do 1280x960. Should not be too hard to do those resolutions.

1920x540 (1080i) = 1036800 pixels
1280x720 (720p) is 921600 pixels
1280x960 = 1228800 pixels
1280x1024 = 1310720 pixels

for reference: 480p is 640x480 = 307200 pixels
If (and that is a big if) the Revolution is only 2-3 times more powerful than the GC, it should still handled 720p quite nicely.
307200 x 3 = 921600 pixels......
307200 x 3.375 = 1036800.....

Hmmmm..... lines right up with 720p. No nextgen console is going to come close to 1080p.

DirecTV downrezzes the 1080i (1920x540 to something like 1440x540 and not too many people complain)h

From the New York Times:

"Unlike GameCube, the new system will play DVD's", Ms. Kaplin said, "and will feature a wireless controller". "It will play GameCube games as well as a new class of high-definition games, with new emphasis on online play"

So it looks good for High Definition games on Revolution.

HD is too early to say, but if the early info that says Rev to be 2-4x GC in power are true, I'd say it's UNLIKELY it would be able to sustain HD resolutions in action games.

Just read this in IGN's newly updated Revolution FAQ:

Q: Is Revolution "two-to-three times more powerful than GameCube"?

A: USA Today reported this news based on a comment from Nintendo of America's vice president of corporate affairs, Perrin Kaplan. The information was later determined to be false. We do not yet know how much more power Revolution wields over its predecessor.

Hmmm...

Don't worry to much about Nintendo, they'll have a competitive package by the time they'll launch.

Nintendo backpedal on their showing of Revolution at E3. That can only mean a good thing, I hope.

Problem is, all the 'power' would be eaten up by the increased resolution. It'd be GC games running at 720P rez. Would look extremely dated and primitive compared to other next-gen consoles.

No nextgen console is going to come close to 1080p.
Strange then that Sony stated 1080P to be PS3 rez then, huh? :devilish:

nintendo just shows an empty box and absolutly no technical details yet..

you cant claim anything at this ponit.
the only thing we know is it will come out next fall (speculativ, wouldnt surprise me it will launch spring 2007 )
