An Epic next-gen adventure-Interview P2 (++)

I wonder how Valve and ID will appraoch their next gen engines with respect to multi-core consoles?

The UE3 release falls sweetly for 2006 console releases, wheres the constant delays to HL2 and D3 have taken the 'cutting edge' element off them. If they're not carefull they could well position themselves a gen behind the UE3. Of course UE3 is still subject to delays like the rest...

Carmack does have some experience with multi-processing :D..... he sure seems to hate it though.....or is that just frustration ;)

id don't necessarily have to be behind; Carmack could pull off another D3 and still come up with something to drag top of the line systems :D

*Sigh*...and the cycle continues ad infinitum...we might aswell start excepting that the next Carmack engine will be too advanced for next gen consoles! ;)

Will anyone bother licensing the D3 engine (or HL2) when the UE3 is just around the corner? Devs can get by optimising existing engines until UE3 arrives...
