Think it is important to note that it is news from Bulgaria and their specific market pricing... where retailers regularly scalp their customers twice, coming and going.
7900XT is currently being listed there from ~1500BGN-2350BGN or ~$800-$1250USD.
The initial pricing information I can find about 7900XT in early 2023 they were listed up at ~2400-2500BGN, +$1300USD.

If that's true (and who is to say either way) I can only imagine the internal turmoil as AMD tries to figure out how to make money on those cards while pricing them appropriately against the competition.

Ouch.

Why would there be any turmoil? Why would they be worried about how to make money on them, when there is literally zero relation to how much something costs to make and how much it is priced for us? Why would making money on these be an issue, even at $300?
