AMD Mantle API [updating]

Hopefully Windows 7. Otherwise there's a big risk that DX12 will become the next DX10 (= will be skipped by most developers). Huge majority of gamers will be using Windows 7 for a long time (as they have just upgraded to it from Windows XP).

DX11 is the new DX9.

I'm curious if the TrueAudio path for Thief did anything about the horrendous audio mixing that pretty much every review has keyed on, or if they just slathered reverb on top of it.

The Mantle numbers at least show a good gain for an i5 when paired with something like the 290X.
I'd be more comfortable trusting the better numbers of AMD chips or other products below an i5 with frame time graphs, just in case things are jankier than the headline average would suggest.

I noticed some notes for the Catalyst beta mentioning some Mantle improvements.
One was a fix for Vsync issues in crossfire mode. Just how much of the old dependence on driver updates does not go away with Mantle? Is there still some part that devs don't control?
 
Is the truaudio patch out ?

yes there is, not impressed by thief (what I heard) but was impressed by the Tuscany demo
I wonder if AstroundSound has a cpu fallback or is it truaudio only
 
The only problem that I've noticed with Thief's audio is that sometimes dialog is too quiet in cutscenes.

Though I do wish the NPCs wouldn't repeat the same lines everytime I run past them.
 
Just ran the benchmark in thief, for the hell of it. Average FPS 8.9% higher, Minimum 12% higher, and Max 9% higher.

As expected Mantle's additions are purely CPU related.
Care to explain why you are saying this? I only ask because I see the same line mindlessly regurgitated by critics on other sites as an attempt to downplay Mantle, implying it adds nothing to graphics.

Anyways,

A little known Russian site puts all these major sites to shame in the quality of their testing. They not only test more than 2 quality settings but do so at more than one resolution and using more than a dozen CPUs to boot.

This driver include the mantle and True Audio update for Thief.. But not only, its too a beta driver outside that it add the support for Thief features and includes optimisation for other games.
The question of driver compatibility dont seems mean to me that HD5000 is now compatible with Mantle. If this was the case, they will have say it.

I doubt anyway we will see ( one day ) compatibility between Mantle and old VLIW 4-5 architecture. ( HD6000-5000 )
 
Crytek adds support for Mantle to CryEngine.
From AMD press release, sources should appear around the web right about now
 
Since I was unimpressed by the Thief truAudio video
I decided to create my own enviroment using eax and I think ive done a better job especially better than the default non truaudio path.
tomorrow I will get off my behind and figure out how to record it and uplad a verion for y'all to judge.
 
Do people think there's anything behind the rumors of DX12 being practically DX11+Mantle replacing D3D?
