Am I crazy? (Car Question)

Now something like THIS behooves me more:

You would get better mileage.

Mebbe a Beetle? I don't like them in general but I do like this blue one:

If that's not blue enough, check out the interior!

This 325xi is now first on the list to be looked at, my wife is in love:

It's just down the street, we're gonna take a look at it tomorrow. It was listing at $8,900 on cars.com, I found it at the Levin site for $7,900 so I've already saved her a grand on it. ;)

The 325xi is a great awd sports sedan with a 2/3 power distribution to the rear wheels if I remember correctly. excellent handling and 4-seasons solid

So low!
It's a blast to drive. 6.5s 0-60 may not be blistering but the handling is awesome and it's a fourth car so it's meant purely for fun.

Has anybody else besides Car and Driver manage to get that time, they must have good drivers as they are often 0.5s or more faster than anybody else. European spec MX5 with 160hp is rated 0-62mph in 7.9s. 6.5 sounds a bit optimistic to me. The power to weight ratio is ok, but I'm not sure it's 6.5 good.

I had a CTS when in LA. It was pretty good. Don't know about the L-body(?) cars.

You've got the scattergun approach going. You should try to narrow the field down some. Everything depends on age/miles/condition in the used car market. I like the 2000 E-Class & 528i, but there's undeniable value in a newer GM/Ford/Chrysler.

I much preferred the 535i to the 535xi when turning over the 530i. The extra weight of the AWD system killed performance. The xi felt nose heavy, but the front drive did a good job of pulling the car through corners & reducing understeer. It might be useful to have in snow, of course.

This requires it be a business expense. Two of our four cars are company cars, but the other two are personal. One is paid for the other is the miata lease. Bought the A3 (company) but leased the CX-9 (company) because of the outrageously low lease payment.
If structured appropriately, you only require non-salary income. I have 3 cars ATM, but looking at turning over 2 which have cost me nada. While the auto industry is such that free money can/should be taken advantage of, I much prefer to use funds in a capital/income accretive way. As you mentioned, cars tend to not be effective investment vehicles.

Scattergun approach is a pretty apt description of our strategy right now, with an uncertain budget and a whole bunch of unknowns.

Probably gonna buy a car tomorrow anyways, we got my Mom to babysit for like 3-4 hours in the morning.

I say don't get an suv/jeep. Any of the cars will be better, b/c the performance will be superior on the roads for the mpg.
And that beetle better be tuned or something, 4 point harness in a stock beetle would be funny. I thought 4 points were dangerous unless you had a harness bar anyway.

Doubt it...I remember reading it was a 5000 rpm drop - nobody pops a clutch at max torque in the real world.

Oh it happens, but controlled. Example launch control, there you close it at max torque while controlling the slippage.

Which still shortens clutch life considerably (which is better I suppose than killing gear life). Anyway, most anyone would be hard pressed to reproduce the 0-60 mph times found in R&T and C&D.

Damn, I hate you  That sum is just about enough to buy like a set of new wheels and spoilers for that car over here.

Mize: it doesn't shorten the life if properly done. Check our new SL63 for example, the launch control there is my very own development, as well as the interface in the middle console. We tested it very thoroughly, since we don't limit the amout of launch-control starts like BMW does, because our clutch was designed for that.

Looking at those prices over there makes me sick, really. You pay less than half the prices we have here, for both new and used cars.

That's alright - they make up for it by paying less for their petrol too......

...but it gives the rest of the world a nice warm, fuzzy feeling.
