Aliasing of constant coloure textures? Why?

Hi!

When I had a Geforce (FX5600) I tried a high resolution skin (4096*4096) for a car. The skin was a Jpeg file and it was white with big green spots on it.

Oddly I noticed a moire pattern inside the constant green spots at a texture size of 4096^2. At 2048^2 no moire was visible. Also when I zoomed in the moire disappeared.

This was in a windowed app at 1280*1024 desktop-resolution.

This should be a problem.

I'm asking how can this be?

A lack of mipmapping could explain this.

Care to enlighten us in what application/game/own homebrewn renderer you're having this issue?
