480i/p TV sets with resolution enhancing technology...

Regular
like Philips pixel plus, wich gives (according to Philips) 33% more lines and double the number of pixels on each line. Does it make a big improvement on console games?

dont waste money on Gimmicks like that, in 2-3 years High Def compliancy will be manditory.

what you probally want is an EDTV, its a step down from an HDTV, where an HDTV goes to 1200+, and EDTV goes to around 853xwhatever..
it will be able to handle highdef signals, and its pretty much the budget line of the HD family. It can do 480P and not much more

You can get 42" plasmas in that variety for around $2500, DLP's are around the same, there are several other projection options as low as $900(now I am talking about big screens, you can get smaller stuff cheaper)

Sony has a pretty good lineup of smaller TV's but readup on them and make sure it does what you need.

A 42" plasma TV in Norway is very expensive, about $5000-5800 (EDTV).
Perhaps a rear projector TV then, they are alot cheaper. Or maybe I should just wait and see.
The TV I originally had in mind was a 36" CRT Philips 36PW930B ($2800).

Lots of similar technologies out there. DRC from Sony, Acuity from Panasonic, D.I.S.T. from JVC, Hi-Pix from Thomson etc.

i'd suggest getting a panasonic tx-29px20d 4:3 100hz tv for the time being in europe for playing console games. Its one of the few tvs offering (real) pal progressive over yuv, its cheap <1000€, and should keep you running for the 2-3 years before hd-flat screens take over...

Not really. Low end plasmas cost the same as high end CRTs today. In three years hd flatpanels will likely have dropped to similar levels, or even below.

Yeah, reading that again, 3 years is quite a long time, you never know.

What i pointed out was the "taking over" part. Nothing is "taking over" anything in 3 years time... Especially in Europe.

I still say, I suggest holding out as long as possible.. HDTV stations have gone live, people are starting to buy HDTV's, it wont be long before the technology and the price catch up with each other and they are all affordable.

Heh... The thing is, if everyone starts "holding out", no one will buy the things and prices will never fall... So in a way we have to thank those rich geeks who buy the latest high-end gadgets as soon as they comeout... ;)
