[360, PS3] Bioshock 2

Definitely, we now have a good idea what to expect.

Replaying Demon's Souls is similar, but in that game, the grunts can still kill you if you take things for granted. In Bioshock 2, I supposed they have new minigame(s), new elements (new powers ?) for us to toy with, and new areas to explore.

How come no one wants to talk about the multiplayer ?

So what happened to the... "WELCOME to the Circus of Values?" Is it just me, I haven't gotten far enough, or what? I found one and it doesn't talk at all.

Conversely, the Gather's Garden has the exact same talking ad as the first one.

As far as my (brief) impressions: I think if you're one of those people who played through Bioshock in anticipation of this one, you've made a grave mistake. I can see how that would lead to reapitive play and boredom. Not having been to Rapture for 2 years (or so), it was an eerily familiarity.

True - not the same awe and marvel as the first one, even the intro is completely different and almost assumes this is your (as the player, not the character) second trip through Rapture while the first one started you on an airplane and walking you by the hand through the initial 'discovery'. But if you loved exploring Rapture, I think you'll love going back through it again.

As far as multiplayer, I've purposefully avoided it for fear that playing a 'maxed out' powerful character in multi-player will negatively impact my single player performance where such a large portion of the game is "earning" your new plasmids and weapons.

Vending Machine VO Issue Hey Cultists -

I need to offer a bit of an apology. There was a question about a month ago on whether the vending machine voices would be returning in Bioshock 2. I answered an emphatic "Yes" because they had indeed been in the game and working just fine for most of production.

It seems like something happened during the final scramble to get the game shipped that turned off the vending machine voices. I don't know quite what broke along the way yet, we are still trying to figure that out. The bottom line is that they are not in the shipped version of the game.

In the grand scheme of things, I know this isn't a huge issue but it is one that I take seriously. I am pretty embarrassed by this and really apologize to you fans as I know how much that it is little things like that really bring Rapture to life. The world of Bioshock is certainly a little less colorful without them. This issue slipped by a lot of people as the game went out the door but ultimately the responsibility here lays with me.

Hey Guys and Gals,

Thanks for being patient and cool about this. I know some of you are frustrated but believe me, none of you are as frustrated as I am with this problem. The patch that went out recently was addressing mostly pc performance issues and had been in the works for some time.

Like I said earlier, getting a patch together takes awhile. It has to go through Microsoft and Sony first. Plus, we want a patch to be able to address a number of issues at once and we are still sorting some of those other issues (like the music bug in Pauper's Drop - grrr

).

Hang tight, a fix will be available at some point, but it's out of my hands when exactly that will be.

Thanks Babel.

At this point, I'm almost willing to stop playing until they get the audio fixed - if they really are working on it.

It was a huge part of the first game, one of the biggest things I was looking forward to remembering (although they did get annoying in the first game after a while).

One good thing about not being on the cutting edge of new games. Most of the the kinks are fixed by the time I get to them. ;)

What's wrong besides the vending machine VO ?

Personally the only sound bug I experienced was a looping music bug toward the end of one of the levels. Some sounds don't play when there are too many playing at once, as well.

How so? That could be a couple months work if you factor the day the game is considered complete -> Q/A & manufacturing.

Art-wise, a few masks, a graphical enhancement to represent the weapon upgrades, and a couple character models don't seem particularly taxing. :p They've obviously had a plan for MP balancing with weapons and perks. Trials seem trivial to add...

So is the widescreen fix already out? The 2k site (use a layout that isnt a total bitch to navigate btw) says: out due February 23th. Which was 2 days ago but I can't find in anywhere? There is only the first patch from a week ago but that doesnt fix the widescreen?

It's not surprising that a lot of people don't find the story as compelling. Bioshock drew a lot of its material from Atlas Shrugged, but after revealing and killing off Jack Ryan, there's not much of the original literary source left to draw from.

Next BioShock 2 PC Patch Due Tomorrow

Our next BioShock 2 PC Patch is due out tomorrow. You'll be able to download the patch starting at 2 AM PST on Tuesday, February 23rd. This patch is small because we focused on getting it out quickly to fix a couple high priority issues the community had, rather than roll them in to a larger patch that would take longer to reach you. We are working on a larger, more extensive patch now and as testing nears finalization I'll update you on that patch's download date.
Bioshock 2 Patch List
- Fixed an issue where 16:9 and 16:10 resolutions were letterboxed versions of 4:3 resolutions, thereby properly fixing the FOV by expanding the horizontal player view as intended.
- Fixed an issue where holding the M1 button would not register in Multiplayer gameplay.
FOV still at 75.

Hi there,

This would be a question for me, not Paul. And we're not ignoring anything, but you may have missed my post on this. The widescreen fix is now out for download on PC and for consoles, the widescreen is working as planned and we don't have plans to change it. We wanted the FOV to be 75.

Edit: Her wording can be confusing. It may be the case that she left out a comma.

Also we just want the FOV unlock option from Bioshock, thats all. Please, is it coming, if it's not then i can abandon the game and move on. I just need to know.

The way she wrote was saying that "the PC version got a patch, the consoles didn't since the widescreen was perfect to begin with".

There isn't a patch for 360/PS3 out at the moment, just you probably got confused by her choice of wording.

Nobody seems to contesting this interpretation.
