Beginning this week, Microsoft will distribute two to three times the number of Xbox 360 consoles to the retail channel weekly. With component supplies in full production and third manufacturing partner Celestica Inc. now producing the next-generation console along with partners Wistron Corp. and Flextronics Corp., Microsoft is producing more Xbox 360 consoles than ever.

Looks like they are extending some current titles with Live downloads as well.

This is great! More people for me to lose to over Live!, and its about damn time Kameo gets its Co-Op over Live! just one more reason for me to play it again.

Did I call it...or did I call it.

"Well there's been strong rumours that MS is doing some sort or relaunch in march(or is it april?), so they may be stockpiling units so they can send them out en masse, and kick the advertising into high gear. Not so much a relaunch as a mass replenishment combined with increased marketing. Just speculation though, based on alot of stores showing the same dates for big shipments."

I doubt they're just stockpiling units to have 2x-3x for one week, scooby ;) I think the idea is they're actually producing more units now, rather than relying on stockpiling to have a burst of them for a short period. Well, I hope anyway.

It could also be both : they stockpiled for some weeks in order to have a good headstart and ample supply for the first killer apps (GRAW, Oblivion), and after that the 3rd manufacturing plant will help reaching projected levels.

Good news for MS anyway. With both quality games and supply ramping up, they can still reach their projected goal for June.

They've been stockpiling them for a little while so they can make a big splash, which is why all the stores where showing replenishments on March 23 and 24th.

I've been saying that MS will begin mass replenishment starting this week and now P. Moore just confirmed it: "Beginning this week, Microsoft will distribute two to three times the number of Xbox 360 consoles to the retail channel weekly"

Microsoft must broaden its distribution net over boundaries of "old" Europe, like in east Europe and in states south of Austria! There is no distribution of Xbox in such countries (though they are selling OS windows XP).

Aye, but "mass replineshment" via prior stockpiling and "mass replenishment" via improved production are too different things ;) It may well be both as Corwin points out, and probably is. Moore's quote suggests it'll be a sustained improvement in supply, which would necessitate improved production (rather than just stockpiling for a short period of high supply).

I believe they work hand in hand. In order to hit a wide variety of retail outlets on a specific date, with 2x-3x the product, they would definately need to stockpile some units first, at the same time they also have to increase production enough to continue that supply.

Maybe the improved production capacity (i.e. Celestica and resolved component shortages) is 2-3x what it was, which would kind of answer both possibilities.

GRAW is only out a short while also. They'd have been as well to let out stock at the time of its release also if they were indeed stockpiling.

man I'm so confused as to what to buy:

Oblivion?
Blazing Angels?
Far Cry?
BattleField?

I'll likely get two now at least and the other two later.

Surely the biggest game listed is Street Fighter II! (and on some levels I'm not really joking!)

If they had that luxury. They timed it pretty well anyways, GRAW released on March 6, Oblivion March 21, mass replenishment March 23-24 onwards.

I half agree with you, i think its XBL but i think it could be the poker. The game is so HUGE right now in the USA, both on TV and on line. I'm just not sure how much not playing for real money will hinder its popularity against the myriad of other online poker games.

The only way this will work is if they do 'freeroll' tournaments, these are huge multi-table torunaments that are free to enter and have some sort of small prize, like $500. Advertisers foot the bill.

That keeps everyone playing real poker, or at least somewhat. If you take away money, and it's play-poker, it won't be popular since you're not playing poker anymore, nobody plays solid poker, everyone calls, it's just absolutely pointless.
