2009 platform CONSOLE exclusives!

It'd figure that Namco-Bandai would region-lock their games.

Tell me about it... they block most games, including the (born to be bargain basement) Beautiful Katamari, which launched later and still retails for ~$119AUD (vs GoW2, Far Cry 2, etc at $AUD79). I fully support the local market if they don't try and screw me over. Makes me happy I can at least go second hand so I can enjoy the game at the price I was willing to pay in the first place.

Rather off topic, but is this confirmed to have a PAL release at the same time? I waited ~8 months for Eternal Sonata, and I'm still waiting for ToV

Tales of Vesperia is probably the best RPG of the past year. Fantastic story, characters, art, and gameplay. I haven't finished it yet, but I'm trying to close it out before Star Ocean.

It's an exclusive so far (which these days means nothing). If it comes out for PS3 it won't be for a while.

One of those "hasn't been announced for any other platform" style exclusives. I think an eventual PS3 release is very likely.

Two Cambridge Studio games ;)
I'd love to know what the hell that studio has been doing for the past 3 years.
(aside from farming its staff out to other first party projects)
Their PS2 game, Primal, while heavily flawed, was very impressive in a number of areas. At the time of its release, it was arguably one of the top 3 best looking PS2 games, and the storytelling and production values were outstanding.

Primal's mechanics /game design was extremely polarizing, but even so, it was clear that the studio took its storytelling and technical presentation very seriously.

Really anxious to see what these guys have been working on.

GT5 is supposed to come late 2009

Source? I'm a huge GT-fan, and I love GT5P already, but I'm really looking forward to GT5. I'm just kind of disappointed that it probably won't be coming out this year, or even early next. It was completely absent from Sony's recent PS3/PSP announcement, which covers their fiscal year from March 08 to March 09.

I think it could still come out in the next financial year, just because they didn't mention it doesn't mean it's not happening. I think Polophny have the clout to ask Sony not to mention GT5 in that recent announcement, especially if they want the release date be a surprise.

Don't forget about
October 29, 2008: In an interview with GTPlanet member Ahmed Al Azmi, Yamauchi-san laughed off the 2010 release date, and said Gran Turismo 5 will be coming “much sooner than expected”.

Capcom's wording on the issue has been very similar to the wording Ubisoft used when talking about Assassin's Creed for the PS3 before it was revealed to be multiplatform. If Lost Planet 2 was actually exclusive they'd just say so. The fact that they won't means in all likelyhood PS3 and PC versions are coming, too.

I'm really curious to see if Bioshock 2 ends up being a timed Xbox exclusive like its predecessor; Take Two's FY '09 plans are deliberately ambiguous about exactly which systems are getting Bioshock 2 at launch. I realize the trailer is on PSN, but it would make sense for MS to get it as a timed exclusive.

BioShock wasn't a timed exclusive - it was an exclusive full stop at the time of original release.

Also, BioShock 2 was officially announced via the trailer at the end of the PS3 version of the game.

That's not to say Microsoft won't try to secure some timed exclusivity though, as the first game is more associated with the 360. I just don't think Take Two would delay a PS3 holiday release unless they got a serious amount of cash, it wouldn't make sense.

I don't know if it makes that much sense to try and get a timed exclusive. It's a sequel, it's not like it's going to sell systems to people who didn't already play the first one -- and I don't think the PS3 version was so successful as to convince people to pick up 360s just to play the sequel.

I think now that both platforms have developed sizeable user bases and in particular now that the PSN is starting to get its act together (Home integration etc.) we will see less and less timed exclusives. Games that have already had a modicum of success as multiplatform titles will stay that at launch.

Bioshock did well on the PS3, Lost Planet did not.
