When my GCN laser got off line, when I called Nintendo support I gave them the serial number of the unit and they knew the exact place, date, and price I purchased the GCN from.

That's almost like when Lisa Simpson bought Al Gore's book. :LOL:

Wow! That's stock management for you. Surely there's someone here at a game store who can tell us how Nintendo get accurate figures where no-one else does?

What I find amazing is that a console with graphics a generation behind the PSP and without a lot of its multimedia functionality has sold not far off twice as many systems as PSP.

Well half the price dovetails nicely with 2x as much. :)

Eh it's not that amazing. They probably just keep track of what serial numbers are in what shipment going where and when. No big deal really.

Only if you don't take the advantages that come with that extra price into account :D

But warehouses will redistribute across stores which info would need to be passed back, plus Nintendo knew when and where it was bought. Unless Acert forgot to mention on the day of purchase he sent off the registration card with such details filled in ;)

Hmm, I know its probably possible for them to have very good tracking information from the serial.

Shure, a audio company, also has extremely good tracking information like that. To the point that they dont care if you have a reciept or proof of purchase because they already know when it was bought, time, etc etc just from the serial.

Actually price to adoption seems to move in a curve. Witness sales of $300 consoles vs when it sells at $150. The latter is responsible for far more than 2x the sales when it was at $300. This likely occurs because income is distributed such that the numbers of people who can afford/willing to spend $150 are far more than simply 2x those that can afford $300/willing to spend.

Yeah of course price is directly related to sales, but not when talking about two different products (or not as much anyway). A PSP at $150 will sell far better then a PSP at $300, but that doesn't mean a DS at $150 will neccesarilly sell far more then a PSP at $300. A low price can be an advantage, but so can the extra technology that comes with a higher price (which is what Sony banked on with PSP)

Wow!!

Amazing. So it is proven once again that the Japanese, too, are only human, and the popularity of a game subject more to the franchise than to the quality of the game ... (comparing this game to, say, Loco Roco, Daxter, Tekken DR, etc.)

yep. no matter how much a fine fighter tekken DR might be, i don't think it's much of a franchise compared to gundam, and is further hindered by the lack of proper multiplayer. loco roco is not a franchise at all yet. daxter is possibly the biggest franchise of them all, just not in japan.

enter the NPD hw figures for july:

NDS = 377,000
PS2 = 241,000
360 = 206,000
GBA = 163,000
PSP = 161,000
GCN = 44,000
XBX = 12,000

The ongoing popularity of the GBA in the US is amazing. Nintendo will have a winner on their hand once they manage to reach the 99$ spot with the DS...

And Nintendo is still doing great software for the GBA (Drill Dozer, Bit Generations, Rhythm Tengoku, ...) most of which probably won't be published outside of Japan. :(

Well he also had the exact date and price I paid for the GCN ;)
