¿Playstation3 Memory card could be...

I just think it would tie in well and make one more likely to buy a memory-stick enabled cell phone, digital camera, or other device if they already have some memory sticks to go along with their PS3 and/or PSP, and this must be something that on some level Sony is hoping for.
I think that's their key strategy with this area. A choice between high markup Memory cards, or low markup, wide appeal MemSticks. If you own a MemStick for your PS3, when you want a handheld you think DS or PSP, see you can swap music+films between the Sony hardwares, and that has 'product synergy' the alternative handheld doesn't provide. Then you want a new camera, looking around, and see amongst lots of different makes a Sony camera with MemStick. Great, you'll be able to use the 1Gig stick you bought for PSP/PS3 and show images around. Now, what digital video camera?...

I don't think they've thought it through too well in the whole Sony group. I don't think they've planned ahead for directory structures and file types. Given the directory structure of PSP, will slapping the same stick into a camera produce photo's instantly viewable on PSP? Certainly their MPEG encoding software for PSP sounds the pits, and at 20 bucks a whack where the rivals are freeware! But I get the impression the new head of Sony (who's name eludes me. Stringer?) is wanting to pool together the different sectors and work towards a cohesive whole, encouraging a Sony household by adding incentives to buy into an entire product range, instead of the usual household mishmash of different manufacturers for different appliances.

To this day I can't figure out why Sony didn't use MS in the PS2.

Yes yes, higher profits with 8MB card but what about the potential profits of making memory stick more successful and promoting their precious 'synergy'?

Given the track record, I don't know what to expect in PS3. Sony has done some very smart things and some very stupid things. It's not unfathomable that they invent some new proprietary card for the PS3.

I guess they needed the same form factor as the PS1 memory card for BC?

Plus Memory Stick media was expensive back in 1999-2000.

I'd go with price first and foremost. MemStick has never been cheap, and back then cost about  and a half pounds per meg! PS2 could get away with low-performance stuff. That just won't cut it next-gen.

cheap or not. sony just do funny things, like sega of electronics. u know with what they have, they should do so and so, but always find something to live us panting.

the last managment fail to control in division destructive competition, let hope uk guy team can do better. if not who know what will sony be before next decade.

Yes. When you go to the photo section in PSP homepage you will find under it a file that says ‘digital camera photos’ (or something close). And not only Sony cameras use MS, Sony license MS a while back so you can find cheaper cameras that also use MS.

About PS3, I was disappointed when PS2 didn’t use MS. I was eager to try these new bubblegum bars memory thingies back in the day. But now, I think PS3 needs a MS slot. You have wirless connectivity between PSP and PS3, and some PSP/PS3 cross platforms will enable you to swap memory saves and use them between the two systems. Also, I think PS3 will come with some extra features( mainly a photo displayer). If that is so, why can’t I make pictures and small videos with my new EyeToy and just save it to a MS and use it directly in my PSP? Remember Sony doesn’t see the PC as the center of the living room (opposite from Microsoft).
Lastly, a new version of PSX was released (being released) that is comapatible with PSP. You can save a movie either directly on a MS or convert already saved material, then PSP can play them with out any decoding or managing. So why PS3 won’t use MS?
And I do not see the point of having a ‘memory card’ slot for compatibility. A connector sold separately should do the job. Not much will use it anyway, or for a long time.

-note: Sony is very unpredictable! Be prepared to to say “what the..?!†with any major device they bring out (whether that would be for better or worse)

It can be wireless out of the box, or wireless by adding a wireless ethermet convertor.
Either way, if PS3 is going to be able to record content on a HDD and MS, it'll be very likely you'll be able to transfer data wirelessly between PS3 and PSP.

Sony announced that. What can we expect exactly from that connectivity, we do not know. It could be a basic as transferring saved data between the two, or as far as streaming PS3 games through PSP screen and you can play around the house. The exact functionality will be determined by how much they want to do.

Do you have a link source?

That's not an announcement. It's a patent and in no way confirms PS3 will have WiFi. Of course it would make sense for PS3 to have WiFi built-in to communicate with PSP, but until we hear something official from SONY at E3, it just wild speculation based on a patent. In other words they're trying to cover their bases with this patent just like the CELL patent, but we all know CELL didn't turn out exactly like what the patent described.

Well, it's speculation, but it's certainly not wild speculation.

As for the Cell patent, I'm not aware of any huge deviations. Maybe you mean the implementation of the 'Broadband Engine,' which was supposed to be four Cell's working in conjunction?

I'm not gonna go further off topic with regards to CELL. My advice to you is to do a search for the CELL patent threads and read up.
