I did actually try TNN UP with exactly that intention but unfortunately found image quality to be lower than CNN performance, although still playable in a pinch. I am on a 3860x1600 monitor though so vertical resolution in UP mode is only 533p. Possible a little too low for the TNN to shine.

Interesting that you found it worse; it seemed about on-par to me buuuuuuut I also didn't spent a lot of time with it. Obviously I trust you to know what looks better to you 
Now that I'm thinking about this more, I want to know if the TNN upscaler is leveraging all that new INT4 compute capacity in the 5000 series. I bet that's why they're pushing the AI angle so hard, since INT matrix math is what really drives AI workloads around. I'm hoping someone somewhere finds a way to do a deep dive on how the transformers are computed, which also would explain why NVIDIA expects it to be so much slower on non-5000 series cards.
