The Witcher 3 : Wild Hunt ! [XO, PS4, NX, PS5, XBSX|S, PC]

Thanks HPtupolev. :) Do you think there is a viable solution to play a game at the highest possible framerate without having to resort to "round" numbers?
Leaving it uncapped and using triple buffering will do it, albeit with the already-mentioned frame pacing issues.

Dropping vsync maintains excellent responsiveness, at the cost of screen tearing.

Far better their either of the above options is to get rid of the fixed video refresh rate, and just refresh the screen whenever a new frame is done. This is what gsync and freesync do. It's very responsive, is effectively vsync'd and so avoids tearing, and the only frame time variance is differences in how long each frame takes to produce, which is much more stable that what you get with triple-buffering. However, gsync and freesync require support that doesn't exist yet on most hardware.

It's next to the life indicator above each monster. Numer 5 there means monster lvl 5 and and number 2 will be lvl 2 monster.
Many thanks.

That's an excellent explanation, as usual. By most hardware..., do you mean that consoles can't get the equivalent to gsync and freesync? Couldn't they use the scaler to achieve that?

I think he means it's currently limited to certain monitors in the PC desktop space, and even if the console APUs have that feature hidden away (the supported HW includes Bonaire/Tonga/Hawaii/Kaveri/Kabini/Temash/Beema/Mullins/Mary Poppins), they'd need DisplayPort 1.2a.

Frying pan anyone?

I'm still in White Orchard but have only 1 question mark to do and then I'm ready to move on ... great experience and BTW fighting drowners in water is not a small feat!
Yea, frying pan :D and the Beast in the Well and even the little sub story of being a gay and being outcast from society during the griffin mission. Such subtle touches of humanity in everything.

And how do u fight underwater? There was a hidden treasure there but luckily the drowners went out the very moment to frighten some soldiers :D and I got the treasure without problem. Nice random thing to happen  !

I still get hit a lot, still keep pressing Bloodborne buttons in the Witcher [emoji14] !

Also, get the Temerian armour from the DLC. Its the best early game armout. Its with the merchant whom u saved from the griffin right at the beginning.

Well, did you do the well mission..? Love the pace, the voice of Geralt hinting at things. Crazy...

I've done the Missing Brother quest (or as I recall it, looting swords from 300 dead dudes), Devil by the Well and Frying Pan Spick and Span and begun The Beast of White Orchard but I've only played 40 mins on Tuesday and an hour on Wednesday. I'll get a chance to spend a few hours with it today, though. Looking forward to it.

Y....

....

You have to use crossbow which you only get during Griffin mission.

Ya, have the crossbow.....didn't know it could be used underwater. Is that the only thing?

BTW, I just realised a wasted a lot of ability points here and there thinking all abilities will be active like regular games only to realise that only the ones slotted n the tree are active.! Need that respec potion soon.

So far it is the only weapon, and it might remain as that to the end, but you can upgrade your crossbow abilities and it looks like you can produce better arrows too. BTW did I mention that I love how this game works underwater? It looks so well done and you feel Geralt is not comfy there! The deeper waters the better and more beautiful it looks!

I spent one point on a specialization I can't use for now as I ran out of my 2 available slots ... will have to wait for 3rd one to unlock then I will utilize it again!
I'm going with spells and combat development for now, but will look more into alchemy at a later stages to see what can be done there.
During prologue I did quite a bit of preparations before bigger monster fights and it paid well to have all the relevant signs boosted as well as right oils put on your blade! This make the whole experience a lot more immerse and believable!

I wish one of the d-pad buttons would be used to quickly change the magic spell assigned on the shortcut (R2) button.

Those magic spells are a pain in the ass to use them. And what's the point of assigning 2 buttons to draw your swords? The sword is used automatically when in fight. Just one D-pad button to assign the left or right sword should be plenty enough. Then the other D-pad could be used to quickly select the magic spell we need, and it's not like there are hundred of magic spells to choose from...

I mean other that that, the gameplay is excellent. But as it is now I won't specialize in magic spells at all, too much a chore to use them.

Better to just grab whatever treasure is beneath the surface and get the hell outa there really.

I find it a bit inconvenient to travel back and forth to fix your weapons, I'm in Velen and don't know where to find a blacksmith.

I've just done with White Orchard, but can you not stock up on repair kits? I was looking at the economics of them compared to the prices that greedy dwarf charges and repairs kits are not much more expensive by my reckoning. And they are a whole lot more convenient.

I hope better weapons degrade slower though because I do feel like I'm tethered to villages to sell and repair at the moment.

Crafted a Viper silver sword (green) and a Serpentine Steel sword (green).....with awesome bonuses ! :D

Also, finding places of powers is immensely more important than levelling up cos they provide free ability points. I am only level 4 but have 8 points invested in skills :yep2:

Some tips:

- If you need money, just like everyone in this game play Gwent. Also selling skins... Also Tomira pays very well for the honeycombs, so if you find a honeycomb (Igni works very well against them) keep it and sell it to her. Helps a lot. :smile2:

- when it comes to food to replenish your health, you can get meat from animals, if you don't have orens to pay for it. :smile2:

- crowns, another currency in the game but unusable for trading, can be exchanged in the bank for orens. :smile2:

- there will be 16 DLC files published for free, 2 of them are already available. As @RenegadeRocks said, the Temerian full armour can be purchased from the guy you save at the very start of the game. You need to be level 4 to equip it, so it's good for low levels but not so good afterwards, and the whole set is not cheap, around 700 orens.
:smile2:
- oil for weapons (they are essential against several monsters) never runs out, its effects wear out eventually, but in that case you just have to use the oil on the weapon again. :smile2:

- silver swords can only be obtained from wizards, afaik, or you either found it in a mission or build one using plans :smile2:

- alchemy is amazing, if you need some extra ingredient talk to Tomira, once you learn a recipe that knowledge is yours forever. Oils, potions and bombs only need to be created once. Once created, if you run out of them, you refill your potions and recharge them by meditating. That's all you have to do, and it is great! :)

- alcohlets also recharge potions and stuff, so they are necessary :smile2:

- so take every plan you find and "learn" to brew the potion, it always pays off

- read the bestiary, some signs are ideal for certain monsters. Yrdn is ideal for some spectres, or the battle will be near impossible, wild dogs and the like are weak agains beast oil, spectres are weak against spectre oil... etc etc :smile2:

- combine mutagens with skill trees. As @Sigfried1977 commented days ago, the synergies are great. My character is specialised on alchemy and I got a green mutagen, and with two of the alchemy skills it gives +150 Vitality. :yes:I wonder if you will get overpowered in some cases though

Whoa, my Witcher has grown a beard ! So, it was all true, it does grow in realtime !
Yes, it does, use your free DLC, the barber kit if you preferred the beard at the beginning of the game.

Indeed, it is very immersive. I am preparing the fight against the Griffin as of now. I play on the third difficulty setting and he is going to kick my ass if I don't repair my weapons and armour, but money is scarce and my wallets aren't deep enough, so I am going to need some time in between repairs and creating the potions I need.

The toxicity level of those potions is something to take into account to before ingesting them, but I love preparing for the difficulties ahead. And then, as French would say, "a la batalle!".

What I miss is having a quicker access to your map. I press Menu and then down, but the effect isn't immediate. I think pressing the right stick twice could do the trick.

Some wallpapers, Yennefer... :) :

EDIT: Forgot to say in the tips that the Axii sign is useful to calm down your horse.

I'd want a button to bring the map as quickly as possible. I'd gladly remove the minimap from the game.

One sword is a "typical" Steel Sword, good against human like opponents, Silver Swords must be used against monsters, of your chance will be slime. There are two types of swords in the game because of that, hence the 2 directional buttons assigned to swords.

A quick button for using magic signs, like say hold LB+A (Axii sign, useful for quite a few conversations) , hold LB+B (Quen sign), etc etc, would be a good idea, now that you mention it.
