Thank you for playing the Open Beta and making the final game better!

We are very excited to see so many gamers join our Battlefield 3 Open Beta. Here’s an update on the Open Beta from DICE General Manager Karl Magnus Troedsson.

I want to give you an overview of how the Open Beta is helping us shape a fantastic final game, what we are implementing based on your feedback, and how the Open Beta will help us deliver a robust gaming environment from day one.

The Open Beta is a true Beta
The Battlefield 3 Open Beta is based on software that is more than one month old. We need to test the new back end dedicated server structure we’ve built. Not only have we built a new game engine, but an entirely new back end system so that everyone can enjoy the benefits of dedicated servers on all platforms.

Just like normal procedure when releasing a game, the Open Beta has had long lead times due to testing, certification, and setting up. This means that the code you are now playing is actually quite early and not representative of the final game.

We had to do this in order to have as many people testing as possible, in order to ensure a top quality experience when the game is released. However, we’re confident in the Battlefield formula and confident that our fans will support us in order to make Battlefield 3 better.

Dedicated servers require dedicated testing
The biggest reason for running the Open Beta is to stress test our servers and back end. Already, we are seeing 6 times the number of simultaneous players in the Battlefield 3 Open Beta compared to the Beta for Battlefield: Bad Company 2! The fact that Battlefield 3 is clearly our biggest game launch ever by a magnitude of 6 makes it doubly important to test everything.

We are constantly updating the News section on Battlelog with information on what we are fixing from Open Beta to final. We appreciate your time and your feedback. The data and feedback from the Open Beta will not only directly affect the final game of Battlefield 3, but its future development and support.

We’re heading out on the road this week to let journalists experience all aspects of Battlefield 3. Stay tuned for their previews, and stay tuned for the final game on October 25th. The final game will look, play and sound better than the Open Beta. You have helped making sure of that.

Do you mean the IR scope? That really did look like a hack, but it's funny when someone shines a torch at you. I used it for a bit, but unlike a hack it hinders rather than helps quite often. Telling friend from foe with it isn't easy either.

yes IR .. sorry

in metro section it helps alot... everything is green only players are red ..

M249+IR scope+200 rounds and you cant miss

today i had 35/8 K/D

Nice, I've only unlocked it for one of the assault guns, so can't spam too much without going into non-scoped mode for reloading. Takes your eyes a second to adjust back and forth.

And let me hereby extoll the virtues of the F2000. Gods own assault rifle and the only thing I've found worth putting the heavy barrel mod on.

don't know what all the compalining is about.. the game looks as good or better than Crysis 2 MP and the actual gameplay represents a battle and shooting experience as realistic felling as any I've yet played. For a small, old snippet of gameplay I can see an incredible gem of a game brewing here.

lighting is very very good

It's A-L-Strong. ;)

Well it really is difficult to discern between AIStrong and AlStrong, the i and l glyphs are nearly identical.

Though funnily, I originally thought it was AlStrong (with an L) but then realised it might be a play on Strong AI.

...
I'm most annoyed by the fact that they've taken out the VSS from BFBC2, best gun ever!
Though I suppose it was rather overpowered being a full auto sniper rifle with a supressor, the highest damage per second output in the game and very tight hipfire accuracy, it also used to fire at subsonic speeds so the target wouldn't hear the typical sniper crack and would take longer to realise they were being shot at.

....on a side note: Crytek has never been really good at multiplayer. In fact, didn't they outsource it for Crysis 2? BF3 in beta form is already a million times better but we'll see who truly has the better technology once we get a look at BF3's single player.

on gameplay there is no comparison...BF3 is loads better, I was refering to how it looks as good as or better than one of the best looking console games

Yep, they outsourced it to themselves. Crysis 2 multiplayer was handled by Crytek UK, which was formerly Free Radical Design of Timesplitters fame. Not to mention that the studio was founded by Rare alums who worked on Goldeneye and Perfect Dark.

Yeah, but really how can you possible expect to tell the difference between AlStrong and AIStrong - the L and i gyphs look absolutely identical. I have no idea how Shifty picked up on me spelling it Ai instead of AL

Anyway AI how come Digital Foundry isn't doing a face off for the BF3 beta?

I had the same confusion in the early days, so I copied his name and pasted it into notepad with good old Courier. It's that sort of problem solving that gets you a Modship here. ;)

Oh. um. BF3. Yeah. Um...any good?

Although Shifty used lateral thinking and copied the text to notepad, it's worth pointing out that the difference is much more obvious when you're viewing the forum with the default vBulletin style selected.

Wat? On console it's not close...not this Metro level. I dont know it even looks "average" compared to countless other games forget C2...

I have to differ... I found the multiplayer beta a lot better than crysis 2 demo multiplayer... I'm not talking of performance (tearing, glitch etc etc) , but graphically what I have seen in BF3 seem notable more in area dimension, texture, interactivity & so on... I can't forget how much I was disgusting about crysis 2 demo at the time, definitely it's not what I feel in BF3...
