As many of you probably know, the worlds biggest BitTorrent tracker, The PirateBay is on trial for copyright infrigiments and whatnot
However, the case is turning out to be quite a farce from the prosecutors side
points so far:
- Prosecutor dropped ~50% of the charges, only thing left is assisting in making copyright protected material available
- PirateBay was accused for selling sexual services (though not by the prosecution i think, not 100% sure)
- Prosecutor failed to prove that the torrents they used to collect evidence were ever actually connected to PirateBay servers, they didn't have the actual .torrent files saved anymore either
- The defendants call for dropping all charges ( All the material linked are shared by the users, all of the copyrighted materials are on users computers, not piratebays, european e-commerce law declares freedom from responsibility for the parties that supply the technology (you can't blame ISP for user downloading illegal material for example))
